Please help, My stereo won't turn on...

I recently transferred my cd player from the 300zx I traded in to my new Honda Civic, and it only worked for a little while before it died. It would play fine, then start blacking out just for a split second every so often. If I then turned off the car and restarted it the stereo wouldn't come on at all. I could unplug the connector, unplug the fuse in the back (not change it, just look and put it back) and when I put everything back together it would play ok for a few minutes then start giving me problems again. Now I can't get it to come on at all, unless I push the eject button or load a CD. It then turns on every time without fail to load or eject the CD, and turns itself back off once completed.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with it? I don't think it's the stereo, since it worked fine in my Z. And if my connector or my power cord was bad, It would seem the stereo wouldn't come on at all, even for a second.
I checked and double checked the wires, and none of them are crossed.
Does anyone know how I could fix this problem?
Thanks

I'd check to see if EVERY ground is connected well first.

I don't know if something could have happened to the HU when un-installing or installing it.

My whole system was turning on and off with no reason other than it would definitely turn off sooner with more volume.

It turned out the the main fuse from the battery was slightly corroded and the plastic casing was partly melted underneeth. I replaced the fuse and fuse holder and haven't had a problem since.

I don't think that would be the problem if it always turns on for the CD, but it could be a similar problem in the HU.

You could check all of your input and outputs with a mutimeter for the correct signals.

Another thing I was thinking is that some connection could be loose and when you push on it in the right place (like insurting a CD or pushing the eject button) you make a connection. Or a loose connection inside the HU.

That's the best I got. I hope it helps.

Anyone else?

What that sounds like that if either you got some power wires crossed up and/or touching, or theres is a bad connection or short in one. This can happen a lot when switching equipment from one car to another, especially different makes . Double check your connections. Make sure that you have the wires running to the right source. If you can't figure it out, it might be worth it to have a professional installer take a look at it before you burn anything up.
It shouldn't cost much. I'd rather have one check it out than burn it up and have to buy another unit.

Agreed, could be as simple as a lose wire, bad crimp or fuse is iffy.

Also, if this is a flip face or removable one, check the condition of the contact pins on the face and HU. They need to be clean, shiney bright copper. If dull or oxidized, get out a pencil eraser or fine grit sand paper and clean the off well. Do this with the power off and see what you get.

If you see any green oxides on any connections, clean them with a small wire brush and spray on some WD-40 to protect from moisture and additional build up.
