speakers for rear fill

ok currently i have a set of pioneer premier 6x8's i was going to use for rear fill. i was going to hook them to the avionixx 125watt X 4 amp i'm getting but i think even at low gain settings these would blow... the are rated for like 50watts rms... so i want to find another pair of 6x8's or better yet a pair of 6.5's for my rear fill that could take the 125watts....

I was looking at CDT coaxil 6.5 and they are only 44.99 for a pair and handle 80watts rms which i think would work if i wasnt pushing them hard. and a good price for them at that.

does anyone have a better idea? or a reason not to get the cdt coaxils for rear fill?

For the best overall tonal quality, I would suggest the same series coax's as your mains.

I've always heard that the rear fill was to be just bearly noticeable, so I figgured that the quality of the speaker doesn't need to be all that great, even for a good SQ system.

This is a good question and I would like to see a lot of other people's oppinions on this.

ya thats why i was looking at the CDT because that what my main speakers are and i figured if i tone down the gain on the rears then 80watts rms speakers should work for the amp.

It might be better to use the CDT's in the front stage as they are superior to the Pioneers. Move the Pioneers to the rear stage and set your amp gains according to taste.

Yes, you may have to make up some custom mounting plates to accomplish this, but it would be well worth the extra effort for SQ.

I like rear fill (full range) in my ride as it emulates 4 channel stereo like in a decent home system. Just a matter of balancing the output to give a spacial effect that is not possible with only 2 front speakers. In a very small vehicle, 2 front speakers and a sub system may be very adequate for some. But I really do prefer the rear stage to add ambiance to the listening experience.

My 2 cents...

PS Where did you find CDT coaxials for $50.00 a set? I am looking for 5.25" up front for one of my cars. TKS

I think he was saying that his mains are also CDT's. Anyway, even though your "mains" always should be louder, the rears do add to the total quality of system. They help add ambience and richness to the mains. Hopefully, they are of the same materials (cone, surround). If not, then select the ones that are. Having them of the same materials and specs is a major plus in having a naturally balanced upper end! Go with the CDT's that match and you won't regret it! br

yes i have a ncie set of CDT components HD-62cf 130watts rms speakers for the front and i need a set of 6.5 for the rear for rear fill because i dont want to use my pioneers. and the speakers i use need to be able to handle the 125watt rms from the amp i well be getting. and the cdt 6.5 and 5.25 are both 49.99 on the zeb for the coaxil speakers

Either coaxial design should work. They are cheaper and take a bit less power, but your balance and overall tonal SQ should be excellent.
Just be sure to dial back on the rear amp gains as they cannot take the same power as the front Comps. Can always set the HP filter a tad higher (100-150 Hz) to prevent the rear fill from getting too much low end bass. The subs will do the rest.
