I just recently replace my 4 channel monster cable, but now for some reason my sub sounds really low, it dosn't hit nearly as hard as it used to. The previous cable would cut out when it got jiggeled, i RMA'd it and they sent me a new one. I have no idea why its not working...my speakers sound fine, but the sub just plain sucks. Replies (4) KomraD on 02/11/2004 23:51:40 btw: i've got JL 300/4 AMP Alpine CDA-7894 Head unit JL CSi-650 speakers JL W3v2-d4 fitz1465 on 02/12/2004 18:28:49 when engaging a problem like this, it is easiest to just start testing your theories. just use the process of elimination. i would try switching the sub out with another, maybe a friends just for a test to see if it is the sub or not. if the other sub has the same problem then we know the problem lies either in the amp or the patch cord and not the sub. try changing the patch cord out with another. try switching the amp out with another if you have one to see if it is the amp or not. usually these few steps will lead you to solving your problem. i had a guy come to me and say basically what you said, and he had hit a crossover switch to high pass when they were messing with the amp and made the sub sound "beamy." "beaming" is a phenomenon that occurs in a transducer or speaker ( a transducer is just something that changes one form of energy into another) relative to its diameter, for example a 15" sub can only effectively produce sound to about 1.052kHz. (i don't mean you did this, this is just for educational purposes). hope your testing works out. ttocs on 02/12/2004 23:27:59 I would hook a walkmand or diskman up to the rca input and check the input first. Does the sub get louder or softer? cplkittle on 02/13/2004 15:38:47 IS this cable we are talking about the RCA cable? if so, double check the output/input channel configuration from the HU to the AMP and be sure that you didn't run the sub pre out to the mid side of the amp and vice versa.
