Where to place tweeters?

Hey, I'll be getting my CDT CL-61a soon (a day or two), and I was wondering where to put the tweeters.

I already have holes (and old tweeters) in my door about 10" above the front speaker of a 2000 Dodge Dakota.

They put their speakers pretty low in the door and facing downward (maybe to sound better?). When I had my other component speakers installed (Polk MOMO 6.5") the tweeters seemed kind of harsh.

I'm thinking that they weren't placed in the right spot, or I just should have sent less power to them compared to the mids.

Here's a picture of the door:

Any thoughts?

OH, I just noticed that the door in the picture has a tweeter in it and it's a lot higher than where I had mine.

Does that look like a good spot?

i personaly like mine on the column that seperates the windshield and door. i have it so the one on the passenger side faces the drivers head and the one on the driver side points at the passengers head. and they sound very nice. where the speaker is mounted in that pictures looks like a decent location too... someone also told me that there is less sound wave distortion if the tweet and mid are close to each other... i personaly think that in my truck anyway the tweeter close to the mid sounds bad but you could always use some tape and try differnt locations seeing which one sounds the best to your ear.

yea, I heard that too (that they should be close together), that's what made me second guess myself in the first place.

That's a good idea to use some tape, I'll try that.

Maybe I'll put them on top of where the speaker goes. The speaker points down so there's room on top of it (on the door pannel where the speaker holder slopes out).

Either way, with the tape I can try all different positions.
THANKS!

I would recommend putting them in the same place. It is not hard to do and does help...

Seeing that they're quite away from the mid; they should be attenuated properly so the sound will "seem" to still be coming from one source. In that scenario they should present a higher soundstage. Personally, I like them sitting flushed next to the mid using a swivel mount. This way you can aim them where you like and there is a smoother transition from mid to high frequency. In your case, I agree with ttocs simpler is better. Since a mount already exists see if the passive x-over has a attenuated output for the tweeter and try using it to see what difference it makes. br
