Amp randomly shuts off. HAPPY

Just recently I installed a 180 amp alternator, and a 0/1 guage wire. For some really strange reason the guy that did it ran the wire right over the exhaust pipe where it splits off for the dual... The insulation was burned off eventually and started shorting out. Couldn't figure out what it was for about a week. I was thinkin it was either touching where the bare metal connector at the circuit breaker was and trippin it or the alternator, since it has a smaller wheel and the belt slips bad now, produces a large amount of current at once when it catches straight to the electricals.

Now when I hit a bump with the right front wheel, or turn rather sharp the lights flicker, headlights and interiors. I just got done movin the power wire up over a bar and straping it down away from the exhaust, and put electrical tape over it till I can get some more wire and replace it myself... Now about the amp cutting off. I have no idea what's going on here, the circuit breaker isn't tripping off, the wire isn't being shorted now, and the amp isn't going into thermal protection cause it can happen right after I start playing it. Any ideas? I'm gonna check and make sure the sub terminal isn't grounding out on the amp, it's all jam packed in there...

Thanks for your time.

Hey, I had a similar problem.
My 2 amps were cutting out, then back on with no rime or reason(made a post on here called "amps cutting out") and when I checked everything I couldn't find the problem. My amps would cut on for a while then cut off, especially when I was driving faster, but it would sometimes cut on when I was stopped at a light.

One day I had my hood open to check for a noise when I saw, what I thought was corrosion in my in-line fuse of my power wire.

A friend saw it also and noticed that it was actually melted plastic from the fuse holder (the fuse never broke like it should have, or it might have had a hairline brake in it).

I replaced the in-line fuse and never had the problem again.

It took me a month to figgure this one out, then I realized that if it's a power problem there's only a few places to check, and for me I should have caught the problem a whole lot sooner.

Well I found out what the problem was. The new 200 amp circuit breaker was bad, prolly just a used one he had I guess cause it seemed pretty old, didn't click very well. I measured it at the amp when it would shut off, no voltage, measured it at the other side of the CB, got voltage, and then again on the side with the amp, there wasn't any. So I switched it out with my old 140 and it works great now...

I'm goin back tomorrow to get my money back on the dynamat labor and the circuit breaker. All the dynamat he put on has fallen off... Finally got some motivation to do it all myself... He did a nice job on the tints and under car LED's I have no idea what happened with the rest of it... oh well, thanks anyway.
