S-10 Cut through

So here's the situation. I have a 98 s-10 w\ a cut through. It is 11 inches high and 23 wide. I have an Alpine sws-1241D. An accordian cap rubber was used to seal off the area exposed. I want to run a MRD-M300 amp. And I listen to everything from metallica to led zeppelin to sublime. Very rarely any kind of rap.

Problem 1:
if a box it built around the hole and the sub is recessed when the bass hits will most of the sound be lost through the rubber boot between the cab and the bed.

Problem 2:
If i build a bandpass box so the sub is facing the tailgate, and the port or ports are facing inside the cab will my sub now loose it's musical tone.

PLEASE HELP
Thanks

1) I would build the box from MDF so that it fits through the accordian grommet. I know they are supposed to be airtight, but I would worry about water damage to the sub, and yes, anything that is flexible will dampen the sound of the subs.

2) I don't see any loss with the bandpass idea, however the bandpass concept may not be the best design for this application. I would definitely go with a ported box, maybe 1.5 - 2 times larger than recommended (also called an extended bass shelf). This would give you much deeper bass and a gain of 3db per sub.

I am going to be doing this same concept in my vehicle, should I go that much larger on the box? How much would it help to put some damper around the inside of the grommet?
