I have a 6 disc in dash CD changer from a Ford which I want to install into my 1996 Mazda Miata. I got a reverse wiring harness from a 1998 Explorer and a Scosche harness for a Miata and spliced them together. I got the plug diagrams and hooked the wires together, triple checking all the connectons. When I plugged the Ford unit in, I got nothing. No lights or sound, and the power antenna did not go up. I pit the old radio in and it still works. Of the 3 plugs on the back of the unit, I could only find 2. I was told that the third one was for an amp connection, which I don't have anyway. Can anyone give me any ideas as to what the problem might be? After redoing the harness, the head unit worked okay. Except that now the left front speaker was way lower in volume than the right front. I found that the right front speaker was wired in reverse polarity. After fixing the wiring, the speaker volumes were still unbalanced. I have to turn the balance almost all the way to the left to hear the speakers evenly. The rear speakers seem to have no problem with their sound levels. I am going to check the harness again to see if I can find a wire out of place. I am also going to check the wiring to the speakers to see if there is a ground or short somewhere. I suspect the harness, as the speakers seemed to work alright before I put in the new head unit. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
