I'm kind of new to car audio, i have a jl 500/1 and i'm was wondering if Kove Audio 12" Armageddon-ZM series Subs any good?, and if my amp and the subs would be alright together? thanks james Replies (5) fireplace_275 on 02/1/2004 13:05:03 You have one of the best amps on the market it is rated from 11.4 to 14.4 volts that means on solid hits were it is just goin to drain your battery most amps are only giving power ratings at certain voltage's which means when there voltage drops they lose power. The jl audio 500/1 means that in the case of voltage dropping you are still goin to get a true 500/1 power. On your sub is you goin with a sealed enclosure or ported ported enclosure you will only be giving 500 watts were as the kove sub asks for 600 rms that means if you seal the subwoofer you are goin to need a another 100 watts but if you port it you will beat the freakin ground down. (but also that is if you were goin with just one sub if you have two 12"'s then you will need a 1000/1 amp uochronos on 02/1/2004 14:37:44 you could run just one sub in a sealed enclosure with a ported would be prefered since you are under powering it slightly. but you could problay run one of these subs with half its recommended power. the problem from this comes when you crank the gain up to get more power out of it and you get distortion. as long as you arnt running the amp so high on the gain that the speaker is distorting then you can run the sub with a smaller amp. in general though its preferable to get right at or a little over so that you arnt tempted to crank the gain up... i would say that this amp is enough for this sub if you are going to be good to it and not try to get more power out of your amp then you can do cleanly... biggie_10 on 02/1/2004 15:41:02 ok, cool thanks.. if i go with just one 12" in a ported box, were can i buy one, or get plans to make one?? and what is a ported ported enclosure? and what does anyone think about a bandpass box?? what a bandpass box give you a deep hit? or would a ported box? uochronos on 02/1/2004 15:57:19 i dontn know alot about bandpass boxes but theer are several differnt types of bandpass boxes each with its own + and - to it. check out some of the how to articles here... you can goto almost any local car adio dealer.. for me it would be cartoys or car stereo city a place such as that, and they should be able to order or make you one to fit the specs of your sub... also if its not listed in the subs specs you can ask the subs manufacturer what the suggested ported box size and tuning frequency is. and then build your own. cplkittle on 02/1/2004 23:36:35 If the bandpass is constructed properly there are some good advantages to it. However a properly constructed bandpass box is difficult to build and requires alot of room (3-8cu ft total). If you are off a little on a bandpass box, it can be disguised in a larger vehicle such as a van or suv. I would recommend a ported box for your vehicle if it is right for your sub. Look at the T/S parameters on your sub and use the following equation to determine what type would be best. EBP = Fs / Qes 50 or less = best used in a sealed enclosure. 50 - 90 = flexible enclosure options. 90 or greater = best used in ported enclosure. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
