What is the lowest amp you think this sub will take and sound good with no clipping and no chance of melting the coils? My friend isn't wanting to have to spend the full $320 I spent on the A1500HCQ that I bought so I am wondering is they could handle less power or if there was a cheaper one... Any of the JBL or Avionix work for it that cost less? The way I see it, you have to balance your purchases with your budget. Why buy a competition 1000w sub, and only have enough money left over to buy a 400w amp? It is better to buy the bigger amp and a smaller wattage speaker, then upgrade the speaker when you can afford it. erikcooper on 01/29/2004 11:12:25 Well, we got the two subs for one price on a "I paid half-he paid half" basis and now he is just wondering how low he can go and be safe. He doesn't want to harm the speaker by any means so if it can't take less than 2000w go ahead and tell me, but if it can handle less and be safe then he would like to know to save a little. cybersailor420 on 01/29/2004 11:23:02 just as a warning, my friend and i have both had the pole-piece separate from the cone on these subs. i was running a Power Acoustik 1800.2 and he had a Power Acoustik mono 2200. they did sound good unitl then though. uochronos on 01/29/2004 12:12:38 like cpkittle said 200wrms well move it but if you crank the gain on a 200watt amp you are going to get distortion and damage the speaker... now if you keep the gain at around half you shouldnt get that problem... i personaly wouldnt go less then half the rated power. but how much does he want to spend? even a decent 1000watt amp is going to be around 300+ erikcooper on 01/29/2004 15:04:30 you are right. I was looking and can't find anything else he could get. He will just have to save up... cplkittle on 01/29/2004 18:59:34 I would just bite the bullet and get the infamous JBL BP1200.1 for around $300 The power regulated JL 1000/1 runs around $600 for comparison. Power Acoustik amps are decent for the price, but you aren't getting what is advertised. My friend is currently running a power acoustic gothic series (OV2 1200) 2X300w RMS @2ohms. He was bragging at his uncle's car audio shop about what he paid for it. They tested it and found that it was only putting out 215w on a hard hit. That's about 70% of the RMS, but that was it's peak. With the DVC subs in parallel, he had a 1.7 ohm load. erikcooper on 01/30/2004 00:12:06 I got my audiobahn amp that pushes 2000w for $320 so that may be his best bet...
