i had just got this cd player from a friend and when i hooked it up to my plymouth acclaim 1989 it would not turn on when i start the car or when i hit "on" on the remote

First check to see if any fuses are blown in your car, then check the stereo, and see if the fuse is blown in it's wiring. I think there is a plastic case with a fuse in it on the head units wiring. Next, are you for sure about your wiring, is everything wired to the right place? Is the constant + wire hooked to the constant wire in the dash? Is the ignition + wire hooked to the right place?
