I own a 1992 Honda Civic LX 4-door Sedan. Don't make jokes, I like it =P I've talked to people and heard about actually getting a 6cell optima yellow-top inside of my civic. for those who have seen the battery and the batt cage in a civic, its not very big. is there a kit? or am i gonna end up doing back-yard modifying? just curious, because im gonna need the 6-cells for the juice my system is gonna be pulling. thanks for any help ;)

I dropped one of those into my '93 ford probe gt and well if you have ever looked under the hood of one of those everything in there is crammed in beyond belief. but since the optimas can be layed on there side it only took me like 15 minutes of modifying the existing basket to make the batery fit and look nice where it was. as far as is there a kit. i have personaly never say a kit you can buy a larger battery holder/shelf(dont know the proper name for this lol) to mount there so the battery looked like it belonged.

My system is:
(2) aw1508t flame compression subs
(2) ach1500t amps (2000w rms at 1 ohm)
Phoenix Gold Tantrum 800.4
Audiobahn 6x9s
MB Quart 6.5" component
MB Quart 4" component

Depending on how much my stocks im selling are worth I'm adding a custom back seat. Im pulling it out and adding 2 bucket seats, and puttig a console from the back to the front, which will hold ($$ pending) (2) awt10x linear compression subs powered by an ahc2200t amp. all boxes are built to spec. I have an audiobahn 6-farad amp style capacitor as well. i have an upgraded alternator too, a honda high performance 165amp alternator. but with the amount of juice being pulled, i wanna be sure that all my power angles are covered. thanks for the replies, i didnt know that Optimas could be placed on their side, ill look into that
ThankZ!!!

The ammount of power you are pulling would likely require a higher powered alt...

uochronos on 01/28/2004 16:13:17
ya i would defiantly aggree with that much power being pulled you well most likely need at least a 200amp alt... even with a 900cca optima yellow. and a 165amp alt you well be pushing it big time... i have a 700cca battery and a 130amp alternator and with just a 500watt phoenix gold amp running i dim the light when the air conditioning is on. a good way to see how much power you need from an alternator is find out what the fuses on each on is. for instance if they where 60 on one 40 on one and 80 on the other then thats 180 amps it potential could pull. and assume that normaly it runs about 120amps even thats 120amps plus the 50 or 60 your car takes to run witha ll the stuff on lights, a/c, etc. then your car dies when the bass htis hard ebcause of the laod. thats embarassing hehe trust me personal experience. remember all these are just numbers off the top of my head i dont know what your actualy equipment is fused for.

I know his 2000w amps are holding 3 30 amp fuses because I have the same amp, that is 240 alone...

You could always add a second battery if there is still concern.
When adding a battery, and I shouldn't use the word add because it is bad on your charging system and existing battery to add a new battery. You should install both batteries at the same time (both new, and identical)

they make a 800-900 cca battery for that car, you should not need much more. If you are then you need to change the alt. Do it right, do it once....

Excuse me I messed up on that other post, 3 40 amp fuses not 30 amp fuses.

So if he can do fine with that low of an alt. why would I need more?

I should be able to do with an extra battery since I would be running about half the power he is.

You can go by the fuses, but how often have you seen an amp fuse blow under normal conditions? I would say that 75% of the fuse ratings would be a more realistic basis for amp current draw at max power.
What was your origional alternator rating? You have a 165 now, I asume that is around 90-100 more than stock. That, plus the deep cycle optima (yellow top) should give you around 125-150 amps to comfortably play with (speaking in terms of peak power).
