I need to hook up a video overhead unit. I have done a few radio install, but most of them had harness' with them. This video unit says to tap into a hot acessory line. Any suggestions or warnings before I just add it on to the acessory line on my radio?

i have not done any of these before but id think about ading a fuse somewhere between the overhead and the acc wire. im not sure of a good size to use though, what is the fuse rating on your head unit, that would probably be a good choice. make the fuse accesable so incase it does blow you dont have to take your whole vehicle apart. thats all i have to say good luck

Give this question a little time... Maybe someone has experience with it.. COFFEE

There is a fuse in the line that goes to the video unit. I am more concerned with overloading the fuse at the box.

You can always consult the manufacturing company with an e-mail concerning the install?

They would be the ones who would know.

you shoud get a harness it'll will make this job alot easier especially if you don't have that much experience with it. and with any power lines tap into the ignition harness always put a fuse.

what model of video overhead is this we are speaking of? I wouldnt suggest tapping straight into the ignition harness if your not experienced with it. The acc of the HU is fine. Is that the only power wire or is that some sort of remote lead?

many cars actually have empty slots on the fuse box which if its easily accessible it can easily be used. You can even tap in from there. (not recommended for car alarms). Just have to make sure its one connected to the ignition and not contantly on.

If you are concerned with overpowering the existing accessory line, I would go with RTM's suggestion, or just use a relay switch controlled by any 'key on' accessory, and powered by the battery.

Easiest place would be to tap it at the back of the radio. Proper place would probably be the ignition. What size fuse is in it the holder? If it is less the 10 amps then hit it wherever it is easiest...

That is the link to the model... I looked again at the wiring. There is no fuse in the line, it is a choke in the line. If I go with the ignition acc line, should I just add a fuse into the line? Or still just go with the raido switched power?

OK I went with a tap into the 12volt power source under the counsole. I tried to do it on the radio circut, but it couldn't pull enough power. The install wound up being just as easy as a head unit.
