NEED TO MAKE A DECISION ON AN AMP MTX81000D (found for $339.00) or HIFONICS BX1500D (found for $253.00) WILL MOST LIKELY BE BUYING EITHER 2 MTX T8154A 15" 500RMS 1000MAX ea. 4OHM (found for $280.00 both) or 2 CERWIN VEGA 15"VMX15DVC 400RMS 1000MAX ea. (found for $240.both) are these prices in the ball park? Have looked at maybe 15 online stores. Replies (5) compvr15s on 01/25/2004 11:35:24 im not too fond of mtx amps, have had troubles with overheating. they dont have any cooling fans. then again i know many people would die before using anything else. i have no experience with hifonics, havent even checked their ratings, but have heard a few guys on this forum using them. as for subs, you may be able to find some better quality subs, both are decent but there are much better out there, i personally dont like mtx, they seem to be lacking for their price. what type of music ya listen to, what type of enclosure you using, and do you really want 15s maybe 12s would be a better choice? answer these and im sure we can help you ZEISS on 01/25/2004 14:20:12 have never purchased, installed,or used anything other than factory system upgrades. This sys. will be for my son. thought I might go with a custom enclosure because I was told insurance wouldn't cover any theft if it wasn't made a permenant part of vehicle or at least bolted to it. I am open to ANY suggestions as far as product , but would like to stay around 6-$700.00 for amp & subs uochronos on 01/25/2004 15:00:23 personaly for 600-700 this is the set up i would go with. a single elemental design 12" 295$ and to power it a avionixx AXT 800.2 this amp put out 800watts of power to 1 channel when brideged at 4 ohms and the speaker is dual 2 ohm VC. so sub and amp well match perfect. this amp is 285$ the amp is also a digital class T which means its very efficient and its a very clear sounding amp. the speaker is top of the line and this single speaker well sound better then 2 of the subs you listed above together. both spec wise and in my opinion. this sub wellt ake up to 1400watts in a sealed enclosure 1000watts in a ported enclosure RMS. if you want a bigger amp avionixx also has a 1200.2 which puts out 1200watts rms to one channel. this amp is 380$... these amps are very high quality top of the line amps they are cheap becuase they are factory direct. also if you have your mind set on a 15" speaker elemental designs has a 15A sub for 315$ as far as insurance goes you should call your insurance company mine covers it as long as its in my car and i have recipts and pctures of it in the vehicle... while custom enclosures are always better you can also simply bolt and enclosure down to the floor of the car.. i have done this before. for what you want to spend this set up would give you alot of bang for your buck. also i'm sure alot of other hear well throw in great set up for that price too. ZEISS on 01/25/2004 18:21:12 thanks ,uochronos, for the advice ; I have been reviewing elemental design web site. Looks very high quality. I saw a few Tsunami amps on there also.Is this also a good choice db1100 or db1800 -very good pricing. uochronos on 01/26/2004 01:00:25 yes the tsunami amps are good choices too. for the speaker i memtioned i wouldnt go with the 1800watt one though. but the 1100watt rms tsunami amp would be a great match. these are great deals on those amps too.
