Hi, I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, with the 8 speaker system, all factory. I am trying to add a Bazooka RSW1224DVC-PM 12" sub in a single ported box, with a Bazooka EL 1500 mono channel amp. I dont want to replace the factory deck. I know how to do all the wiring, im just not sure about the RCA cables, and the control wire. Also, is there a special way take apart the console where the deck is, I cant seem to find any screws to take out. I havent recieved these products yet, I should be gettin them via UPS any day now, if you can help me with the wiring I would appriciate it, im not sure if ur familiar with this brand. The place where I bought this stuff said this sub is a good match for this amp if you get the 4 ohm model, then I would have to wire it in SERIES, to drop it to 2 ohm, or something along those lines. Im not real positive about wiring in SERIES, so if you could just kindof draw me a picture on how to wire this sub to the box, and if theres a special way I should wire the box to the amp, for best performance. Replies (2) compvr15s on 01/24/2004 22:22:52 to get to a 2 ohm load you need to wire it in parallel. goto http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/index.html#1dvcp...... just go from neg to neg then to neg on amp. then pos to pos on sub, then to pos on amp. swez on 01/25/2004 05:07:03 That sub is a DVC sub right? I cannot locate the information on that sub you mentioned. It does look like it is a 12" DVC, probably 4+4 ohm. If that EL series amp is stable at 2 ohms, then you can wire the VC's in parallel to obtain a 2 ohm load for the amp. That's easy to do by connecting both + termanials to the sub together, and both - terminals together to get a 2 ohm load. It looks like this in a wiring diagram: VC1 Pos sub amp.....+ wwwww -.....Neg sub terminal to amp VC2 Pos sub amp.....+ wwwww -.....Neg sub terminal to amp The wires on each sub VC, connect to the terminal cup on the enclosure as noted above. Do you understand this so far? Now, to hook up your amp to present system, you do not have to remove the stock HU (deck). You may simply attach a set of pigtail wires from your rear deck speakers, then feed these into the input side of that EL amplifier. That amp has high signal and RCA inputs. (if I recall it correctly) Try the high signal inputs first. It looks like this: ===LR speaker======+/- =====input to amp input (Left) ===RR speaker======+/- =====input to amp input (Right) If you have a factory amp system here, may have to use an intermediate device (LOC) Line out Convertor, to bring the input signal voltage (signal off rear speakers) down into a usable range for this EL amp. (here, you can use RCA jack inputs on amp) NOTE: You will know this right away if when you fire up the system, you get heavy distortion from the EL amp to the sub. The preamp stage of the EL amp may be overdriven and no matter what gain setting you use, the bass is distorted. Then you'll know you need an LOC. As for electrical wiring of this sub/amp combo to your electricals, there are 3 inputs on that amp: 1. +12 volts off Pos terminal of battery 2. Ground wire from amp lug to body ground (bare metal in trunk) 3. REMote +12 volts to turn on the amp Can use #8-10 gage wire from + on battery, to inline fuse, then out of the fuse, back to amp. The ground on amp should be same gage as power wire and you can easily attach this grounding wire with a sheet metal screw (#8x1") to the trunk pan metal. Just be sure to sand off all paint to bare metal, then drive in your screw with ground wire attached. Keep this wire short... no more than 3 feet long is best. Use a crimp on "eye" CONNECTOR FOR A PERFECT FIT. Finally, this amp may or may not require a REM line. Some amps have an auto-sensing circuit that will turn on the amp automatically, whenever the amp detects an incoming audio signal. If this amp does not have that feature, you can make your own REM feed line by tapping voltage off the fuse panel. Use the ACC/IGN power lug in your fuse panel as a voltage source, fuse this wire close to the fuse panel with a 3A inline fuse, then fish that wire back to your amp and connect to REM. The amp will come on, only when the key is in ACC or IGN start positions. Oh, when connecting the EL amp to sub, #12 gage speaker wire is plenty good here. Whew!
