Well the subs I've had for month now are still hittin. Lightning Audio X1.12.VC2. I've been hearin this weird rattling noise from my trunk, I thought it was just the back dash, so I payed no attention to it really. The other day I listened to the subs with the trunk open and heard rattling inside the sub it sounded like, so I thought the spider ripped off the basket. Luckily I found out today it wasn't that bad. Looked at it again while it was playin and the dust cap flew off of it. There's glue all over the sub and cap, should I remove that and reglue it or reglue it without removing the other glue? What kind of glue should I use? Here's the sub http://images.cardomain.com/products/lit/LITX112VC2_1.jpg Replies (4) cplkittle on 01/23/2004 17:39:20 If you can remove the glue without damaging the speaker or dust cap, do so. An airtight seal is desired here. I wouldn't recommend superglue because the vapors will cloud the speaker finish (and any plastic/synthetic material around the repair site). I am not really sure what type of glue to use as I have never done this. I can only tell you that I would avoid any superglue or model glue due to the strong chemicals used (naptha, toulene, xylene). A good 2 part epoxy glue would probably work well. Have a wet and dry paper towel handy to wipe off any excess glue carefully trying not to smear it. admin on 01/23/2004 19:06:04 In his article, Swez suggested silicone glue and not superglue. Do not dent the cover getting it back on. Walt COFFEE time.. Reference: http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/?t2 swez on 01/24/2004 08:30:31 A 2 part epoxy should work well as will silicone. The trick is to get a good air tight fit, as any gaps will eventually lead to separation of the cap again. As for removing the old glue residue, try rubbing alcohol first. If that is not strong enough, then a 2:1 mix of alcohol and Acetone should do the trick. (2 parts alcohol, 1 part Acetone) If still not strong enough, then go 1:1 ratio. Test a spot on the cone to insure this solution will not damage the cone and go easy on amount used. A Q-tip is good for application to the glue residue. Good luck, Swez COFFEE accusedmonk on 01/24/2004 17:33:41 Thanks, I cleaned the cap and cone off with rubbing alcohol. Found some 2-part epoxy and glued it on. Tested it out and it works great so far. I'm gonna keep an eye on it make sure it's not coming loose, or eating up my sub lol. Thanks again Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
