ok I have a jl Audio 15inch w3 with a coustic 401 class D amp,the 15 is running at 1 ohm oh yeah the 15 is dual two ohm voice coil ran in parralel,ok my question is can I hook one amp to each voice coil like one anp powering each coil, and do the amps have to be exactly the same Replies (2) cplkittle on 01/22/2004 16:09:50 This can be done, and is done more often with larger speakers like yours and competition subs that require trememdous amounts of power (4000-5000w peak). IF at all possible, it is better to run one amp that is powerful enough to push the sub alone. If you have to add two, Identical amplifiers are recommended, with identical settings. swez on 01/25/2004 06:31:46 Not sure I'd try that one as each amp would have to be perfectly matched in signal voltages and phase angles. If these were off much more than a few volts/degrees, could destroy a perfectly good sub. To do this precise matching, would need a signal generator, a dual channel O-scope and a very accurate AC volt meter. If you had all that at your disposal during the setup process, then it will work well. If not, you're playing with fire. A single "quality" sub amp is better than 2 mediocre amps in this application.
