Do I get a 12 gauge wire, hook it to the battery, run that wire through the car to the trunk, mount the amp, and connect that wire to the high level input to the amp? Replies (3) erikcooper on 01/16/2004 12:38:21 In a one word answer, No. First off it would help to know what the model number on your amp is. If you can tell us that we will be able to tell you what size power wire you need to pull the power for the amp to put out the watts it is supposed to. There should be a spot on the amp to connect the positive power wire. Then also a spot for the negative. Once you get it set up where you want it you will take another piece of power wire and connect it somewhere on the body of your vehicle to ground it. uochronos on 01/16/2004 13:11:18 ya more info is definatly needed and dont hook the wire there. also 12 guage is way to small for an amp even a 200watt amp should have like 8guage ttocs on 01/16/2004 13:31:12 it is easier to seperate all the wires that are needed for an amp install into 3 catagories, pwr, input, output. Pwr has three wires: +12 V constant-I do not recommend running anything under 8 awg, but this wire goes from the battery, to the +12 on the amp. Of course we must follow the first rule of amp installs and fuse this wire within 12" of the battery. ground- Same size wire as the pwr, as short as possible going from the vehicle chassis to the neg 12v on the amp. Remote turn on-16 awg wire that goes from the decks remote turn on/amp turn on/pwr ant.... signal input-usually rca's that go from the deck to the amp. If your deck does not use rca's then you will need to use the high level inputs, or a line out converter. output- goes from the amp to the speakers.
