I've posting something along these lines quite a while ago, and since then i've made a significant amount of progress. My power suppl, amp, and sub are all good to go. And i just finished cutting the MDF for the boxes for my component speakers. However I have two questions. What size fuse should I be using on my head unit? Alpine cda-7984. Also, What should I cover the MDF with? Can i paint them? I want to protect them from as much wear and tear as possibe. Thanks! Replies (6) KomraD on 01/15/2004 12:26:30 btw, my equipment is as follows Amp - JL 300/4 Sub - JL 12w3v2-d4 Speakers - JL 650-CSi Head Unit - Alpine cda-7984 uochronos on 01/15/2004 13:57:46 for protecting your subs you could do what i'm in the process of doing and cover the boxes in fiberglass resin that gives it a nice smooth texture then paint it with a nice paint. KomraD on 01/15/2004 15:48:46 Its not for my sub. My sub has long since been compleated and is covered in carpeting. These boxes are for my 650-CSi speakers. 6.5" cone, tweeter and crossover. I don't have any experience with fberglass, im looking for a simpler way to go about this....does mdf absorbe paint to the degree that would cause it to warp and decompose? cplkittle on 01/15/2004 16:05:51 MDF does suck up the paint, and it wil take a few coats, but it will not warp the wood like particleboard. A good enamel paint will seal and protect MDF very well. uochronos on 01/15/2004 17:34:21 sorry but any type of box well work for what i said... its gives it a sleek shinny plastic type look. erikcooper on 01/16/2004 12:14:13 KomraD you wouldn't need to have experience with fiberglass. Since you are just covering it you wouldn't even need mat to harden it, just the resin to make it smooth. You would just paint it on like paint and then if you wanted you could put a body filler on it and sand it down. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
