how can i setup my stock car cd player in my house to bench test some audio products? Replies (6) ttocs on 01/13/2004 11:07:45 you will need a HU, small offboard amp, some speakers, and a power supply. In addition you will also need to have pwr hookups on the front, as well as speaker outputs, and rca inputs. Not a big deal really. erikcooper on 01/13/2004 11:17:08 I think he means how does he power the 12v HU in a house. That would be my question really. cplkittle on 01/13/2004 12:36:28 A regular battery will last you 10-20 minutes depending on how much you pull from it. Testing car audio products indoors will not give you much to go by unless you have a room the same size of a car made of plastic and cloth. The acoustics are totally different. ttocs on 01/13/2004 15:34:53 by test I was assuming he meant to see if it worked.. you can get a ac to dc pwr supply at any electronics store. be warned however that they are not cheap.... fitz1465 on 01/13/2004 22:44:17 when you say bench test some audio products, it sounds like "see which one sounds the best to me to put in my vehicle". cplkittle is correct about components sounding different in and out of a vehicle. for instance, a subwoofer's response curve in and out of a vehicle is astoundingly different. if you want to see if a component sounds good, i have noticed that a pro audio show is even much better than going to your local stereo shop standing in a glass room. you can actually get into company demo vehicles and listen to their systems IN CAR. i recently went to the USACI world championship in Kansas City and listened to some cool stuff. look at the USACI and IASCA web sites to see if a show is coming to your area. a car audio fan should never miss these shows. i had the amazing priviledge of going to spring break nationals for the first time in Daytona last year (the queen of mobile audio shows). one can never feel the same about car audio again after going to this show. i highly recommend it, and deffinitely try your skill against other installers at SONY's 15min. install competition KomraD on 01/15/2004 12:20:28 Pyramidcaraudio.com makes good power converters....i am useing the 35amp one to power my components.
