The amp is probably not running 75 watts RMS a channel but I am just not so sure 4 inch kenwoods you have sense they make a few models. Could you give model # so we can look up the RMS power ratings? So lets clarify this a little more The speakers actually play sound at lower volumes but when turning the volume up they heavily destort cutting out? Are you 100% posstive you have the + and - hooked up correctly?Sometimes the most simple things cause the largest problems. You made sure all wires are connected tightly making a good conection. with a little more information we should be able to head you in the right direction erikcooper on 01/9/2004 00:00:39 you do not have a part or model number on the speakers? JLFornoff on 01/9/2004 00:28:48 the speakers dont distort they just cut out. Relax_The_Mind on 01/9/2004 07:46:15 Its kind of sounding like a ground problem to me... How are your grounds hooked up? Both the deck and the amp. (power lines too) Because if an amp cuts off its usually a power problem and that power problems is usally that a connection is loose or its not getting enough juice. Is the amp hooked up with RCAs or speaker level inputs? Oh and what is the "Almost pops" mean...? Explain... RTM ttocs on 01/9/2004 09:17:12 what is the gain set at? Amps don't usually shut off unless you are driving it into protection in some way. What size pwr wire are you using, where did you tap into for power? fitz1465 on 01/10/2004 00:52:03 it sounds like your amp is clipping at high volumes. this is where the sound actually turns into DC which starts to melt voice coils and starts popping or cutting out considering that everything else is hooked up right that is....it really sounds to me that you bought a piece of s*** amp for some nice kenwood 4" speakers. you can't pull a heavy trailer with a crappy hitch if ya know what i mean. 4" kenwood speakers can't handle a lot of rms power, especially 75w which you are NOT getting from that amp because it would blow them. your alpine should power the little 4 inchers with plenty of power...i have used bass blockers many of times with little speakers and a nice head unit to produce wonderful mid to high frequencies. if you want to add an external amp to these, get a nice mtx, kicker, rockford, even US Amps are good for cheap ones that are rated no more than 25-35 watts rms for those little guys and keep the low frequencies away from them.
