I have a pair of Boston Acoustic 6.5 Pro ser. and i don't really like the way they sound, i don' thave a amp wire to them, and i have a Alpine 9813, i only had them for about 3 mons. and i would like to sell them and buy a different pair, what kind of comp. should i buy?thanks Replies (10) uochronos on 01/7/2004 19:08:18 Personaly myself and alot of other people here like CDT www.cdtaudio.com when i came here i had never heard of them and was looking at getting some MB quart components, focal components or some other big buck brand.. and these guys talked me into the CDTs and i have nothing bad to say about them.. infact if you compare the Spec of the 200$ cdt's i got to the spec on the 600$ focals i was looking at the CDTs blow them away... right now at www.thezeb.com they have the CDT classis 2 ways for sale for 149.99 and i belive the have a set of the high definition CDTs for 200$ and alot of other good deals... i would definatly suggest these... i personaly have the HD-62CF 2 way compionents these absolutly blew me away. cplkittle on 01/7/2004 20:06:51 The alpine 9813 is one of the better alpine HUs pushing 27/60x4watts. And I have heard good reviews on boston acoustic. What is it, just out of curiosity, that you don't like about the boston acoustic components? erikcooper on 01/7/2004 21:20:47 The CDT HDs are not $200, they are $400. I have found some for $200 but they are from ebay and I am trying to find out if the person has anymore sets, I think I heard he had 10. bigam on 01/8/2004 00:12:55 cplkittle, The reason i'm not to happy with them is because they sound hollow, my cousin has a pair, but his are 3 way, they sound a lot better then mine. i could just have a bad or something i dont' really know, i don't have a amp to them, i want to get one. DP on 01/8/2004 01:19:10 Go with Directed Audio (DEI) I have their 6.5 in. comp. and I think they are great. I am just running them off of my factory head unit and they even ask for 100w RMS W/ an amp, they would be great. ttocs on 01/8/2004 09:33:12 Wait wait wait.... What are you looking for? What are the bostons lacking? What kind of music do you listen to, are you going to add an amp later, ect....... There are alot of good and great speakers there but some do better at different things. We really should get more info before we go shouting out our favorite brands.... cplkittle on 01/8/2004 10:48:13 I know you probably have already tried this, but I have to ask anyway.. Have you tinkered with the eq settings on your HU to try to get a fuller sound out of your components? Also, where are they currently mounted? I can understand if you just want new ones and have the money to get them, but I would try one or two different things before I ditched them for a new pair. If you buy a set of components, you will probably want an amp to go with them anyway, so why not go ahead and get the amp and try it on the BA's first. Also try seperating the tweeter and mounting it somewhere between chest to ear level in your vehicle. This will bring out the clarity of the highs and seperate them from the mids giving you a better 'sound stage' or distinction. tweak the radio eq or sound options with each change to find what you like. If you are still not happy, we can recommend some nice mids for good prices, depending on your needs and/or taste - as ttocs just mentioned. dflock on 01/8/2004 15:13:09 I would invest in an amp for these speakers before I bought new ones, and I would guarantee that the hollowness would go away. Boston Acoustic makes good gear, some may prefer the sound of other components and vice versa, but still good gear. http://thezeb.com/caraudio/us_acoustics.html Get the USX2100 for those speakers, should make a world of difference, and hella cheap. fitz1465 on 01/11/2004 20:38:47 you absolutely cannot run most components without an amp if you want them to sing like they were made. i have a set of boston 6.5 pros with 120 RMS to them and they sound great. they are made to be powered. if you want the best, go with a "Focal" component set. they range from the high price of the utopia series to the reasonable access series. check out their site and look for some on ebay. these are wonderful components, french made. uochronos on 01/11/2004 20:51:33 personaly i wouldnt pay the money for focals... you can find other brands cheaper... infact just spec's wise my cdt's blow away all but the real expensive focals and mb quarts... i have friends with both focal and mb quart and they are amazed at how my 400$ CDT's keep up with and exceed there 500-1000$ speakers... also i got my cdt's on sale and didnt pay there regular 400$ price which make them that6 much more amazing of a speaker... and very versitile too... like other people have said most higher power rated components can sound flat or not great with the 30watts or so rms even a good deck can put out. but my CDTs sound as clear running off my deck as my friends comparable focals do running off 75watts rms from an amp. obviously his is louder and sounds more balanced but as far as creating a good sound stage at lower powers these speakers do so buetifully but still have the ability to take higher powers.
