The little help that is still needed.

Ok, my sub has been decided on. I have an Audiobahn AW1508Q. It is supposed to be 2000w RMS. Swez has suggested, and I think I agree, to use an Audiobahn A1500HCQ amp, which pushes 2000w RMS.

I also have a pair of Kicker K410 4 x 10s. They will be run from the HU.

I have a pair of Sony Xplod 12s that I will be running as a midbass. They are 350w RMS but I am going to be running about 100w into them.

I am going to order some CDT components. Either the CL-61 or the HD-62. The CL-61 will handle 100w RMs and the HD-62 will handle 180w RMS. I am only going to put 100w into whichever I get.

What amp can I use to push the Sonys at 100w and the CDTs at 100w?

210 x 3 at 4 Ohms Mono

http://www.carstereomall.com/store/store.cgi?command=listitems&pos=0&type=search2&search=ab-a6601t

I would like to see any other possibilities or suggestions, if anyone thinks it would be cheaper to split it into 4 x 100 and 2 x 100 let me know.

Also, to make sure I am completely clear on this, the tweeters have to be hooked up to the amp as well right? If the compnent set takes 100w RMS that means each 6.5 takes 100w and each tweeter takes 100w right? I thought this was correct, but want to make sure.

compvr15s on 01/5/2004 10:42:02
i would ditch the 12 inch xplodes, im not gonna comment on weather i like them or not but you will get plenty of midbass from your seperates up front, would give 60-100 watts to the 2-ways

erikcooper on 01/5/2004 11:49:56
If I ditched them I would have nowhere to go with them, and I won't get any money out of them. It would save a little bit on the amp, but not a lot... And the difference in the 6 channel and the 4 channel won't mean less electrical upgrades, I have to upgrade regardless. What benefit does it have to ditch em?

If anyone else thinks I should, don't hesitate to let me know, I was just asking what the benefit would be.

uochronos on 01/5/2004 12:24:41
if your speakers components are 100wats rms that means you hook the amp to the crossover and the crossover divides that 100watts to the tweeter and 6.5 mid... you cant run 100watts to the tweets and then 100watts to the mids....
as for the sonys i personaly would ditch them for mid bass thats my personal opinion. my reasoning would be that you get alot of mid bass from your 6.5 components i have the CDT HD-62CF and i have them running all the way down to 60hz and they pick it up fine and clear... my second reason would be the rest of this equipment is great SQ equipment then you throw sony explods in which are meant for basicaly SPL and not alot of SQ at all. it would seem unbalanced in my mind... i dont know may sound nice though i know i have a Sony xplod 12 and it put out alot of bass i over powered it with a 500watt amp and it never blew and it was loud... but it really had bad SQ. you can always take them out if you dont like it or get some decent sq 10's or 8's later... if you decide you dont like the sony.

swez on 01/5/2004 13:00:32
OK, now the picture getting less cluttered... Let's have a "Systematic Review" of your goals and direction.

REVIEW

Sub & Amp:

1 AW1508 T or Q; 2000 watts RMS 15"sub ("T" is newest version)
1 A1500HCQ Amplifier ; 2000 RMS @ 1 ohm load

Good match... need to figure olut a sub enclosure and move on!

Interior Speakers:

Front stage: CDT Comps, which ever you prefer will work fine as your budget allows. How much power they need? (100-150 RMS/ch., should be pretty loud)

Rear Stage: My view... know little on how the Kicker K410's sound in your vehicle. Can delete them, power them with the 4 channel or run off HU for rear fill. What is the power rating of these speakers and are they full range coaxials or single cone. Do you know the specs on these? Ahhhh, found them... (30 RMS/spk; 45 - 20 Khz; 88 dB @ 1w/1m) Not much power handling, but can expect fair SPL, below average SQ at rated power) HU power will give you ~100dB (22 watts) and a 30 watt amp nets 103dB.

Midbass: This is a big question mark... where do the Sony subs fit into the big picture?

Since you have the front stage (CDT COMPs) in the plan and they will give very good midbass here. Thew sub/amp issue is pretty much resolved, there remains the questions about the rear stage speakers and midbass reinforcement.

Will MB make a difference in this application? YES !!! But only you can determine how much of this you want. Midbass gives punch and upper bass power to add more "presents" (realism) to your low end system. Don't need a large amount of power here to blend MB with subs and Full Range speakers. (50-100 watts/ driver should be plenty of SPL to blend. No need to go whole hog on power these Sony's to full potential as they will be very out of balance with the rest of the system. Can you sell or trade the Sony's for something else you really do need or can use?

Interior amping:
1. A strong 4 channel (100 -150 x 4 RMS) will do fine for the CDT's and 4x10" rear stage speakers (depends on how much the Kickers can take)

2. Same amp, but use the rear channels to power the Sony's. (1 channel per sub) Cannot bridge the rear channels and use 2 sub in parallel as load will be wrong. Can bridge the rear channels and use 1 Sony woofer at 200 - 300 watts... that's not a bad option. (1 Sony to sell or backup spare)

3. A 6 channel amp... yes, that is something to consider. But....one thing to consider though.. if you lose one channel, the whole amp come out for repairs and you have lost all mids/highs & MB. The other aspect, 6 channels in this power range are VERY EXPENSIVE.

Does this sum things up to date?

Swez

PS Does that help clarify what you have in mind to date? If not, say more.

erikcooper on 01/5/2004 15:59:00
That is a great bit of information Swez. I haev just realized some important information though. There is no need in a 6 channel amp. If the components get the 100w split between the 6.5 and the tweet then that is only 2 channels, then the sonys, either bridged to one or split to both is at most two more channels. That is just 4 channels. I would get pieces of the 4 x 10 stuck to the side of my head if I tried pushing them with 100w :) since they only hold 30w, may as well run them off my HU. So now I need a good 4 channel amp. Run the CDTs off it, then either split the last 2 channels to the 2 sonys, or bridge them together to one sony. So what 4 channel amp should I get for this application?

Munchiesyumm on 01/5/2004 19:33:04

Here are some 4 channel amp options

Orion 800.4 $359
4 x 100 watts @ 4 Ohm
4 x 200 watts @ 2 Ohm
2 x 400 watts @ 4 Ohm

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13478

JBL 300.4 $244
75w x 4 into 4 ohms
150W x 4 into 2 ohms
300W x 2 into 4 ohms bridged

JBL are known to be under rated from what other members have been stating. This would be the most cost effective.

http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/1651

Audio Bahn A4125HC $399
Amplifier - 125x4 @ 4ohm

http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/audiobahn_amplifiers.html

swez on 01/5/2004 22:09:26
Since you are going Bahns sub, Bahn Sub amp, the Audio Bahn A4125HC $399, Amplifier - 125x4 @ 4ohm seems like a very good fit.

Indeed, run the K 410's off the rear HU amps. Anymore power than that and you get schrapped by flying speaker parts as they explode. Good point huh...

Seem like you have a good discount source for Bahn gear, see what you can come up with in one of their 4 channels in the 100+/ch category. That should work great with the CDT's and Sony's, if you still wish to go that route.... should be very good all around system once all is balanced & tweaked.

Swez

PS Nice research there Muchies

erikcooper on 01/6/2004 01:41:42
I have gotten all the bahn prices I have found from ebay :) The bahn amp looks good but the JBL is much cheaper. Is it possible to run the CDTs and the Sonys at 2 ohms? If so then the 150w x 4 would get the CDTs close to full power, and keep the Sonys in check. If not then yes, the Bahn 4 ch. sounds good.

cplkittle on 01/6/2004 12:54:12
If you ran them at 2 ohms, you wouldn''t gain any power because it would take 2 of them to wire parallel to get 2 ohms.
1@4ohms=100w
1@2ohms=200w, but you have to run 2 to get 2 ohms so 200w/2=100w... same as 4ohms

plus you lose your stereo surround running them off of one channel
unless you purchased 4 CDT components, you could run 2 right and 2 left at the same power per speaker as 1 right and 1 left.

I would prefer the 4ohm configuration since there is less THD at 4 ohms. With components, a clearer sound is what is desired here right?

erikcooper on 01/6/2004 13:11:32
Yes, definitely a clearer sound. So are there any that do 100w or more x 4 that are cheaper than the bahn one for $399?

I also have some questions about batteries. The Optima Yellow tops don't get up to 800 CCA, The Red Tops do but should you use them for multiple accesories? If not what battery should I get? Regardless what battery should I get hehe?

Anyone know anything about Brown Bread sound dampener?

cplkittle on 01/6/2004 13:20:34
as far as amps go, I can't find any. Everytime I look for a 4 channel amp, I get so pi$$ed off at the inflated ratings that I could scream (1600w 4ch amp.....300w X 4 @ 1ohm, @ 24V) how do you get 1600w out of 300 X 4???? of course I went to school in Alabama, but my math tells me that 300x4=1200 am I missing something? and who the he// makes 1ohm components????
When I add my second battery, I am running them in series so I can keep up with the voltage ratings of these new amps.

I have an optima red top, but am not completely convinced of their performance, give me 5 years, and I'll let you know something. I'm still skeptical, although I can now crank my car with the headlights on bright, and they don't dim. The one thing that I worry about is that they boast their rugged durability for rough terrains, that they are used in race cars, dune buggies, and marine applications, but from all I have read, dry cell batteries are frowned upon by many for normal everyday use. I will look into this further..
This is what I found just now to my dismay, since I have a red top....

RED TOP
In any vehicle or equipment that will use the battery only for Starting, Lighting, & Ignition requirements and has a properly working alternator, the OPTIMA Red Top™ Starting Battery will perform extremely well, often providing up to two times longer life than conventional batteries. If the vehicle has few or no after-market accessories and uses a stock or upgraded alternator, the OPTIMA Red Top Starting Battery is the appropriate choice.

YELLOW TOP
Starting applications in high-accessory vehicles/High Cycling Applications. Vehicles with computers, extra radios, electronic components, lights, winches, etc. will create excessive amperage drain that can damage a starting battery. Recommend the OPTIMA Yellow Top to provide fast recharging and longer life due to its' ability to cycle over 300 times.

And Brown Bread, here is a comparison chart for three dampeners:
http://www.b-quiet.com/compare.html
The market for acoustic absorption/reflection material is steadily growing (dynamat, brown bread, b-quiet, stinger road kill, etc..)
I would suggest a little research on dampening factors of each, although most are pretty comparable in terms of efficiency.

erikcooper on 01/6/2004 14:13:47
Brown bread is made by B-Quiet. It shows to be as efficient as dynamat Extreme at around 70 degrees F. That is pretty good considering you can get 70 sq. feet of Brown Bread for like $130 instead of 34 sq. feet of Dynamat Extreme for $100.

About batteries, I figured the yellow top would be what I needed, but they don't have one with 800 CCA yet... What should I get?

On the amp, I am hoping I can find one that is a little cheaper than the Bahn one. It is more expensive than the 2000w Bahn amp that is going to push my sub...

cplkittle on 01/6/2004 14:31:30
Optima does carry a 900CCA yellow top model # D31T & D31A

erikcooper on 01/6/2004 15:10:15
Brown Bread definitely looks like the way to go.

Know where I can get a D31T, or D31A? I can't find them at all on ebay. Not sure what retailer would be best to go to.

EDIT:
I found the Optima D31A here:
www.1st-optima-batteries.com for $199.95

and here:
www.milbatteries.com with no price

Can anyone find them cheaper? If so just let me know SMILE

cplkittle on 01/6/2004 20:36:30
I purchased mine at auto zone for a little over $100, but that was the red top. Local auto parts stores do carry optima batteries, and the price difference may be less than shipping in some cases. If they don't have it in stock, they might be able to order it for you....
Also a local store is more convenient as far as warranty/replacement goes.

Pocket Efficient amps:

http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/1383
Rockford Fosgate Power 851X $275
110 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms (over rated little)
215 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms
425 watts RMS x 2 in bridged mode at 4 ohms

Rockford Fordfosgate is a very debatable subject. They pump out tons amplifiers and have an extremely long line of subs. This company I would consider more into the money than putting out higher quality products. They use to be a lot better back in the day. They have good features, decent cooling, and are pretty easy to use but as the over all mechanics of the amplifiers the 14.4 volt to achieve max RMS power is defiantly no head turner. But will work and are pretty good looking amlifiers with light up led ect..

You're right I am sorry I didn't realize the Orion and the Clarion was only 2 channel. Interesting what lack of sleep can do to you. I will find some more for you. Sorry for the mistake the numbers start to look the same after a while

MA Audio M489i $199
Power output: 100 watts RMS x 4 (4 ohm load), 200 watts RMS x 4 (2 ohm load), 400 watts max x 2 (bridged mono, 4 ohm load)
http://www.partsexpress.com/

I have heard mixed oponions on the MA Audio but it's worth a look!

I hope this helps it is the better models of the more pocket efficent amplifiers I could find. It's pretty bare out there although for a price between 200-300

swez on 01/6/2004 20:40:38
NAPA also sells Optima and has a private label version of same too, but usually cheaper. If you go find the NAPA auto web site, may have some details on them and prices too.

erikcooper on 01/6/2004 22:08:17
Ok, what are some of the golds opinions on these amps that Munchiesyumm has suggested? Not that he isn't educated but that you guys may know important information.

cplkittle on 01/7/2004 08:33:51
munchies is good with research and from what I have seen, knows his way around amplifiers. The things you need to look for on a 4ch amp are:
THD at or less than .01% @4ohms
S/N ratio of 100dB or more
rated power close to 12V, the higher voltage used to measure the wattage the less watts you get from your system.

erikcooper on 01/7/2004 10:54:26
The Orion and the Clarion were only 2 channel amps so they are out, the Fosgate wouldn't even pump 100 at 12v so it won't do, and I can't find the info on the MA Audio. Here is the page, will someone see if the manual will load up for you on the M483i

http://www.maaudio.com/productcatalog.cfm?class=272

Correction: The THD is <0.05% and the S/N is 90db
Can't find the rated at volts. So, is that one worth $149.99 and will it do good?

Munchiesyumm on 01/7/2004 19:43:26
yes once again sorry for posting the 2 channel amps. After so long you start to see the same numbers over and over! But I am at it again and this time I am not as tired.

I am really going out on a limb here trying to find you an amp! It is very difficult to stay away from cheapies and find you the good stuff that is rated well.

Ma Audio amp - I checked out the manuel it said nothing of what it runs off this would be a good question for the technical support!

SoundStream- Not heard of by many but they have some quality products. They are a reccomended brand.

SoundStream EGA4220 Edge Series 4 Channel Amplifier $ 249.99
- RMS @ 4 ohm 110 x 4
- RMS @ 2 ohm 220 x 4
- RMS @ 4 ohm 440 x 2
- Dimensions: 11” x 2.2” x 17.7”

http://www.carstereomall.com/store/store.cgi?command=listitems&pos=0&type=search2&search=ss-ega4220

The amp choices are getting very thin! I will try to find more later but check up on that amp. I wouldn't show it to you unless I had some faith.

I gotta rush I'll check questions tomamrow

cplkittle on 01/7/2004 19:59:35
I have been looking at soundstream myself, the 6ch amp that I was looking at had a THD of .005% and a S/N ratio of around 110dB. The only thing is that I couldn't find the voltage the specs were rated at.

erikcooper on 01/7/2004 21:18:23
same problem as with the Ma Audio one. I may be able to get the Audiobahn one used off ebay for much less than $400.

Munchiesyumm on 01/8/2004 00:57:51
Yea I have no idea how to find voltages other wise than e-mailing the companies. I hear nothing but good things from Sound Stream.

they have a really good reputation but try e-mailing customer support and asking.

erikcooper on 01/8/2004 09:06:31
Will do. I will let everyone know how it goes with the Bahn amp on ebay as well.

Ok, guys I think we have figured most of this out.

Two things left. HU and Equalizer.

What should I be looking for in a HU? Any recomended ones out there? I would like one with a DVD player in it. I plan to get a monitor to mount in the dash I am building.

Now on to the next step... Equalizer.

What is a good one to get?? I am lost on what is good and what is not. I will list the equipment I should have and then see if you have any recomendations or advice on what I should be looking for. I want at least a 9-band.

Audiobahn AW1508Q 15" Sub - 1x
Audiobahn AW1500HCT 2000w Sub Amp - 1x
Audiobahn A4125HCQ 4 x 125w comp/midbass amp - 1x
CDT HD-62 comp. speakers - 2x 6.5s, 2x tweets
Sony XS-L121P5 12" sub (for midbass) - 2x
Kicker K410 2-ways to be ran from HU - 2x

This is assuming I get the Bahn 4way amp, if not, I will note the difference and you can tell me if that changes anything.

erikcooper on 01/8/2004 10:24:40
I am almost afraid I won't be able to get the HD-62s now, this guy has it set up for authorized bidders only and he hasn't replied to my e-mail asking for authorization... Seems as if he is ignoring everyone, there are no bids yet.

So, those may be replaced by the CL-61.

erikcooper on 01/8/2004 12:25:01
Can anyone find the recommended sealed size for the sonys?

swez on 01/8/2004 12:26:43
That Sound Stream amp sounds like a very good option. Very high quality products they make and the specs reflect the same. I had a friend (Mr. Brownstone... AKA Mr. B) that also sold MA Audio & Ample Audio products and he was pretty impressed with their performance... but not cheap unless you shop them hard.

I cannot find voltage specs or .pdf files on SS or MA products at the moment. Am sure they are out there... just not had the time to search. Checking the web sites for each may lead to that detail... but am short on time at the moment.

Swez

PS will explore HU and EQ options later as well. My favorite happends to be Audio Control... the 4.1 series is very user friendly.

lol, why would they do that?? rating so high... Hey munchies, thanks for those HUs but I am putting a monitor elsewhere, just need the HU to play them, not show them as well. Sorry for the misunderstanding...

The first one has a built in screen doesn't it? That Kenwood? Couldn't really tell... The auction on that A4125 got up to 330.00 so I figured I may as well wait, especially since it was used. And the guy with the HD-62s never authorized anyone to bid on the speakers so they didn't go. I guess I will go with the CL-61a. What does anyone think of this amp. I found it on e-bay but can't find specs or anything. Concept CC-1002

Munchiesyumm on 01/12/2004 02:11:41
No the Kenwood plays DVDS but I don't think it has a screen I looked like all over.

Make sure you check out the sites I gave u for MA Audio and Clarion they have tons of DVD/mp3/cd/cdrw ect.. so on and so on but they also have lots of screens that are seperate.

I posted on the concept CC-1002 on a differnet post u started.

erikcooper on 01/12/2004 12:42:22
Kenwood comes with 8" widescreen, but the main problem, I remember now, was that it isn't a tuner, it just plays the DVDs. I need AM/FM, cd, DVD, to be the most specific. Sorry, wasn't quite specific.

cplkittle on 01/12/2004 18:49:13
back to the soundstream amp for a second, The 4ch 1400w stretch daddy has one 30amp fuse. At 12v you get an output power of 360w.
Bottom line, this amplifier can not reach its peak rating unless you put 46.7volts to it.

erikcooper on 01/13/2004 00:11:05
hmm that sucks.

Ok just as an update I will let everyone know what I have purchased as of this minute.

Bass: Audiobahn AW1508Q
Midbass: already had the Sonys
Components: CDT CL-61a
Sub Amp: Audiobahn A1500HCQ
Mid and Comp. Amp: None
DVD/CD/AM-FM HU: None
EQ: None
Monitor: None

Besides these bottom four, what else does anyone suggest? I am in no hurry to get any of the bottom four, other than the mid and comp. amp. I am not in a hurry regardless but that will be the next purchase.

So I need suggestions if there are any and still taking ideas on the HU, EQ(although I like the Audio Control models), monitor, and maybe the mid and comp. amp(I will purchase the A4125HCT if there are no suggestions).

Opinions on this monitor: Audiobahn AVM170?

Munchiesyumm on 01/13/2004 01:54:02
so you did or didn't look at the Clarion or MA Audio decks?

It seems like that part got skipped I posted links. If you checked those out and don't like I don't have any more HU's to show..

sorry.

A4125HCT === $1,799.99

hmm ^ are you sure? How much can u get this amp for?

erikcooper on 01/13/2004 09:52:20
No where near that price man. They got them on ebay for around $400 but I have also seen a few on there for cheaper. Just hoping there is one on there for that price when I get around to buying it.

I saw the Clarion and it seems good but I can't help but wonder if it has an AM/FM tuner since it doesn't actually say it does. Think it does?

That Clarion is the only DVD I see without a screen.

I didn't see any MA Audio HUs but yes I saw the screens. They look nice but I am hoping to find something cheaper :) I guess we will see what I can come up with.

BTW does anyone know if any of Audiobahns HUs come with a flip face design? I love the way those HUs look so if I can find the DVD/CD/AM-FM with that design it would be awesome.

erikcooper on 01/13/2004 10:57:55
I also wanted to ask, what size wire I should use as speaker wire for these applications? I am of course using 0 gauge power for the sub amp. What gauge for the subs speaker wire? mid and comp amp power wire? mid and comp speaker wire?

erikcooper on 01/13/2004 11:35:42
I may as well ask what a good recomendation for the wires would be. I want some good looking wires. Stinger? Street Wires? Tsunami? Anything you guys recommend? And I did not order an amp kit. I already had 25 feet of 0 gauge so... What else (and what brand) stuff should I order? Fuse holder and fuse by who? RCAs by who? Battery connect terminals by who? Anything I am forgetting. Of course these last few questions fall under the what brand question but just trying to be specific with each individual part.

Can anyone find the CCA on this battery? I found a CA but it probably isn't the CCA.

Tsunami PP880-BTY

erikcooper on 01/13/2004 13:23:40
Check this link. Very bottom picture. I could do this and it owuld make it where I could get a 30 band (just to haev more control than with a 5) and put it up like this, I could more than likely put amps there as well...

Munchiesyumm on 01/13/2004 19:45:09
http://www.knukonceptz.com/

they have tons wires RCA's and it's high quality, Swez was the one who showed me this site so I know it's good. It's very cheap too considering what they offer, it's blue an and silver wires so it looks pretty good.

A Deck without AM/FM? Really.. I never even thought about that, you're right it does not say it has it but it definatly does not say it does not have it either. I would think every car HU would have the radio. If you're really worried e-mail the Tech Support.

I was on a site and that amplifier was being sold at that price, you're probably right you can get it a lot cheaper.

erikcooper on 01/13/2004 22:41:18
Here was the link for the EQ I mentioned up there. The way it is mounted gives me ideas. Who thinks this is cool? It is the last picture, on left.

erikcooper on 01/14/2004 11:52:33
How do you guys think the JBL PX300.4 would work for pushing the CDTs and the SOnys?

Also, why are negative battery terminals sold if you just ground for your negative power?

And, what size fuse whould I use for the A1500HC? THINK

cplkittle on 01/14/2004 14:39:40
I think the JBL amp would be plenty, and for the cost, you are getting more than what you would pay for others. Just from my experience looking for my own 4ch amp (will probably go with JBL), and researching for others, you probably aren't going to find anything better. You have to take into account the voltage everything is rated at, the loss due to heat in class AB amps (up to 50%) and all the other headache ingredients.

The negative battery terminals are mostly for show unless you upgrade your power significantly. When I added my wiring, I added another ground. (what good is 1/0 power wire with an 8ga ground?)

erikcooper on 01/14/2004 16:22:43
So I don't need the negative terminal? I will be running 1/0 AWG but it is fine to just ground it?

Also, what gauge should be used to run from to the JBL 4-ch. and what gauge should be used for each set of speakers?

Munchiesyumm on 01/14/2004 20:10:07
http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/?t1

An article written by Swez, explains the different gauges.

cplkittle on 01/14/2004 20:37:51
if you upgrade to 1/0 power, upgrade your ground to the same. Even though most of the time your alt will be supplying the power, and using the chassis as a ground, I would still recommend this.
The Jbl 4ch amp should come with a recommendation for power wire.

erikcooper on 01/14/2004 23:49:49
Ok. I am using 1/0 AWG power and ground, so grounding it is fine? No need to run it to negative terminal?

erikcooper on 01/16/2004 14:20:52
I got my sub and my CDTs in on Wednesday. They all looked good and seemed to be in good condition. The A1500HCT was turned into ups today so it will be on the way. Still have to order a 4 ch. and I will probably get the JBL one to use for that. So is the Audio Control 30 channel EQ what everyone suggests for a 30 ch. EQ?

swez on 01/16/2004 17:37:24
A 30 0r 31 band EQ is not for a beginner. It takes a lot of time to dial in all the bands and may be more over kill then needed. With a test CD or signal generator and an RTA (Real Time Analyzer) it would be easier to reach a near flat response curve for MB, Mids and highs. But the sub will be more a preference as to how much bass you want... when you really want to stomp on it.

I would suggest the EQS series model:

==============================================

Wiring your speakers:

Sub to amp: #8-10 gage is good, #4-6 gage would be better if you can get it to fit into amp/sub terminals

Interior speakers to amp: #12 - 14 is plenty good here

erikcooper on 01/17/2004 20:02:53
Cool, I have like 20 feet of 4 AWG laying around, maybe I can get it in.

Bone on 01/24/2004 11:10:06
I have been reading this string with a whole lotta interest. How is the install coming erik? I also am going with the CDT HD642's (front) and 62EF's (rear) and been having a tough time looking for a 4 channel amp that would push them at 150 watts per channel. I was hesitant about the bahns because a lot of folks have had the amp shut down and go back in for service, but no one's explained why. Didn't know if this issue had been fixed or explained.

What was your final amp choice, and how is the system running?

uochronos on 01/24/2004 11:26:42
http://www.avionixxusa.com/ep/products.htm
has an amp thats 125watts 4 channels RMS class T digital

its a nice amp... the full 150watts isnt nessicary to run the speakers unless you really are set on that. i would think 125watts would give you more then enough. also that amp is onlye 285$ brand new strieght from the company that makes them. consideering the only other amps i have found with all the same options and with the same amount of power cost alot more then that its a great deal.

swez on 01/24/2004 20:37:32
Hummm, that Avioinix 800.4 has some very impressive specs, features and a great direct price. Power... 125 RMS x 4 is plenty for your Comps and the MB (sony) drivers.

The Class T version is what most Pro line amps employ these days. Very high efficiencies (80-90%) I/O power conversion. Ultra low THD + Noise rejection is superior to Class A/B and Class D amplification techniques. In short... very high power, very efficient and ultra low noise and harmonic distortion from Class T amps.

After reading the tech notes on this product... definitely a player for you application at a no non-sense price.

Have a look: http://www.avionixxusa.com/ep/axt_8004.htm

Good general & tecnhical information. I am looking for power consumption info now. If 80-90% eff., I expect this amp will not draw huge current to produce the noted output. My calulations show about 50A., (2 x 25A fusing) @ 85% eff., at 13.0 volts.

Hummm, overloading my RAM here... long .pdf file. May have to reboot and try again... but so far, this amp looks like a real winner.

Swez

Bone on 01/25/2004 18:31:55
That class T amp looks great, let me know how it sounds when you have everything installed. I am running into countless setbacks on my install, I'll probably start another string here in a moment for it. Good luck!

erikcooper on 01/26/2004 00:39:14
I haven't gopt anything installed yet. I am kind of collecting it... I have to get a bed cover that locks and all before I can install...the sub is going in the bed. The mid bass may as well... That Avionixx amp looks good. I will have to keep that in mind. It will probably be a couple weeks before I order the amp to push the 4 ch.s though. gotta save a little money first.

erikcooper on 02/3/2004 11:34:50
I have been thinking and I am wondering if, since I am going to probably get the Avionixx 800.4, I should just toss the Xplods and get another set of CDTs to throw in there and run off of that same amp? Comments?

cplkittle on 02/4/2004 09:44:16
The Xplods will probably pick up lower freqs than the CDTs, but not as clean. Using them for rear fill, or midbass, in my opinion would be the way to go. Keep the clean up front, and everything else kinda blends in. The sony 12's should be perfect for bridging the sub bass up to the midbass freqs of the CDTs.

erikcooper on 02/4/2004 12:55:03
Ok, cool, I will keep them then I guess.
