INSTALLING 2 HEAD UNITS--BLOWING A FUSE ON ONE

i'm installing a pioneer cd receiver and a jvc cassette receiver (to handle an xm radio) in an 85 ford bronco. the pioneer is 40w x 4 max and the jvc is 45w x 4 max. the jvc cassette is doing well so far but the pioneer cd blew a 10 amp fuse. they are both hooked up to the same power supplies (a continuous and a switched) and the same ground and supply the same front and rear speakers. before i proceed any further, does anyone have advice about what i should check or change? thanks for your help--

So you hooked up the Pioneer it blew a fuse and than you put the JVC in and it works fine?

Is that what your saying? If so there must be something wrong with the pioneer??

both units worked fine to begin with right after installation today, but after checking out the xm radio through the cassette deck, i went back to the cd player and the fuse was blown. i was wondering why?

you hooked both decks into your bronco, so you can play tapes on one and cds on the other than you plugged the XM radio on there. For a 10 watt fuse for 2 decks that might be pulling too much power for that 10 watt fuse.

The gold should be able to anwser better than I can but my guess would be your electrical system isn't sufficent enough. Run some cables directly to the units from the battery so you can get more power you are limited using the wires that were intalled with the factory deck.

good luck

did you have both radios on at one time? You really should have a switcher circuit set up to turn one set or outputs on, and the other off. If you have them both on at the same time it is bad...

Yea I would thing not. Try one at a time. I would think having both the decks running will cut you short on juice coming from the factory stereo power wire and not only that but it could damage your speakers. Just be careful.

like ttocs the pro said. Switcher Circuit so it's not so "ghetto"

good luck!

most HUs have a 25 or higher amp fuse on each of them, so in essence you can't pull 50amps max through a 10 amp fuse.
Check the back of your pioneer HU and see what size fuse it has, if that is the one that you are talking about blowing, something is wrong. Check the owners manual and see what size is recommended or give us the model number and we can look it up for you.

i want to thank everyone for their advice and especially ttocs and munchiesyumm for suggesting a switcher circuit. that did the trick! anytime both units were on, even for a short period of time, a HU fuse would blow. there must have been some feedback through the speaker wires? i don't know where the power flow went, but it's working now. thanks again!

glad to hear it. What happens is if you have two decks on at the same time you will make a push pull amp that is not balenced properly, and a fuse will blow.
