I'm not sure... obviously. But what would be better to get the Inifinity Subs I'm looking at (Kappa Perfect 12's) come with either a single coil or dual voice coils. I know with the dual you have better/more wiring posibilities. Does sound quality or performance come into play here? Any help or knowledge is appreciated. I would be getting two 12's if that changes anything. Replies (29) swez on 12/30/2003 08:17:33 Sonically, there is little or no difference. The real benefit of DVC's comes in terms of matching the load (ohms) to the amp you choose or have already, to get the most power from the amp. BTW, Infinity subs are very good SQL subs. With adequate amp power and a well mated enclosure, you should be very pleased with the results. Examples: You have a 2 channel amp and want to bridge it for maximum power in MONO mode. Most 2 channel amps will only take 4 ohm loads. Here, a pair of 4+4 DVC's wired series parallel, will get you there. OR... you have a MONO amp that delivers most power into a 2 ohm load. This is a good application for a pair of 2+2 DVC's or a pair of 4 ohm SVC's. Either way, you can get a 2 ohm load. OR... if you have a high current (HC) 2 channel amp that can do under 2 ohm loads (0.5 ohms), then a pair of 2+2 DVC's in full parallel will give you that option. In short form, what amp are you planning to use? With that information, we can help you choose the best scenario. Swez Jack030 on 12/30/2003 12:32:33 Well I know or at least I think I know that asking "which amp would be good?" is a very controversial question. SO... i'm not quite done looking/choosing an amp that would best suite these subs. Any advice would be great. Jack030 on 12/30/2003 12:48:38 What I want is the U.S. Acoustics USX800F amp, but I can't find it for sale anywhere. Does anyone know where I could find it? Jack030 on 12/30/2003 13:10:59 Is it better to be under or over the recommended RMS rating? b/c i found these two amps i like. Ones an 800 watt amp with 300 per channel and the other is 1000 watt amp with 400 per channel and those subs recommend 350. Suggestions...? erikcooper on 12/30/2003 12:55:54 Are you getting the Die-cast or the regular on the 12s? The US Acoustics amp you said would work out perfectly with the Die-cast. I will look around for the amp. The Die-cast model subs will take 400w RMS if you get them. Don't go over unless you want to blow the speakers, under is much better than over if you have to choose. The US Acoustics amp you said you wanted does 400w x 2 RMS. cplkittle on 12/30/2003 17:09:24 You can go over slightly, or under slightly. 400w RMS on a 350w RMS sub is not a bad thing. The US Acoustics USX800F will power these subs at the following power: 2ch 4ohm=300w 2ch 2ohm=400w Bridged @ 4ohm=800w These ratings are based on 12.9v. I would recommend 2 - 4ohmDVC subs wired to 2ohm each running on 2 channels (400w rms per speaker) compvr15s on 12/31/2003 13:54:34 never try to underpower your subs, its much harder on them then over powering them. believe i know, i was underpowering my subs and they were blowing left and right, when you under power your subs you then want to turn the gains up to make the subs louder, by doing this you are addin distortion into play, this is extremely bad for your subs, but if you go with an amp that will net higher rms than the sub allows, it just means your going to get a clearer signal at that power handling. just because you have a 1000 watt amp runnin 2 400 watt subs dont mean you will blow your subs, it just means you have to more carefull on your gain settings, you have to listen for the distrotion from the subs then turn the gains back a notch and bingo you have it set. you can always adjust from your HU as well, so make sure your eq on your HU if yours has an eq is set to zero on everything, will help in settin the amp. good luck Jack030 on 01/4/2004 22:40:26 i still can't find the USX 1000F amp. I swear I've looked everywhere. Maybe I'll just have to contact US Acoustics and see what they say. erikcooper, did you find it? Jack030 on 01/4/2004 22:44:31 maybe someone could suggest another amp though. i'm open to all ideas. i think i'm going to get the INfinity Perfect 12.1D b/c they'll be a little easier on the wallet and i'll be able to get a better amp. can the subwoofer wiring diagrams on sounddomain.com be trusted. it showed two ways for the DVC subs to be wired up (for two subs) one with 1ohm load and the other with a 4 ohm load. uochronos on 01/4/2004 22:44:54 hmm thats very strange i just did a search on every product search engine i could think of even went to all US Acoustics autorized dealers and not a single USX 1000f for sale... found alot of trhe USX 1000d's though... i'm assumeing you would have to call either a US Acoustics dealer or US Acoustics like you said to find out where to get one... Munchiesyumm on 01/4/2004 22:52:15 www.ikesound.com JBL 600.1 $189.00 Output 4 Ohms: 300W x 1 I am not sure if thats what you're looking for. But there are plenty of good amplifers. On the net for good prices. please check out this article written by xplicitblitzboi it should guide you to find an amplifer you like in your price range for you're current setup. http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/?t11 some places to look would be www.thezeb.com www.ikesound.com http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/ http://www.carstereomall.com/index.shtml erikcooper on 01/5/2004 01:08:12 No Jack, I have not found it... Jack030 on 01/5/2004 10:23:16 alright, i like US Acoustics so i think i'm going to go with the USX 2150 amp that will put out 450watts x1 at 4 ohms. if i wire the infinity 12DVQ subs up to get a 4 ohm load, will each sub be getting 450 watts? i'm to new at this stuff. someone learn me! erikcooper on 01/5/2004 10:29:52 If the amp puts out 450 x 1 at 4 Ohms then no. sometimes you can get 450 x 2 out of an amp if it is run in half the resistance, i.e. 2 ohms. I am not sure on that specific amp so don't take me at that word, let a gold tell you the absolute truth. compvr15s on 01/5/2004 10:35:08 you can hook up one 4 ohm speaker in bridged mode and get 450 watts, if you go with 2 subs and get 4 ohms total you will get half power to each sub. the power will be divided between the number of speakers that you hook up. if i was you id go with a class D amp, way more efficient, like 90% compared to class A/B which is 60% efficient. so if you have a 100 watt class d amp you will get 90 watts compared to 60 watts from the class A/B amp. just know that class D amps are just for sub woffers. Jack030 on 01/5/2004 11:12:43 with a class D mono amp, is the wattage divided between the subs? b/c US Acoustics has nice mono amps too; the USX 800D and USX 1000D. The 800D puts out 400 watts @ 4 ohms. Would the wattage be split for each sub.? i'm confused. erikcooper on 01/5/2004 11:58:49 Yes, if it is 400 x 1 and you run it to 2 it will only get 200 per sub. Jack030 on 01/6/2004 16:47:47 now it seems that i'm looking for a good mono amp that puts out 800watts @ 2 ohms. i contacted US Acoustics and they don't make the USX 1000F anymore. No wonder i couldn't find it anywhere. I would like to find a good amp that i can "showcase" b/c it's going to be on display in the tire well. any suggestions? I saw the kicker KX800.2 but it's kinda plain. uochronos on 01/6/2004 16:53:02 whats your price range.... i dont know about quality but auidiobahn makes some stuff that is very attractive... phoenix golds new Octane R series is very nice too has neons built in and all and there tantrum series i think looks very nice too... the fosgate amps looks nice too in my opinion some people dont think so. if you give me a price range i well find some more specific amps for you to look into.... out of what i listed i would suggets the Octane R 800.1 by phoenix gold they really do have a nice appearnce and alot of nice options on the amp Jack030 on 01/6/2004 22:21:32 i was looking to stay under $500 for the amp. i want to power two infinity kappa perfect 12's (VQ or DVQ) with at least the recommended RMS = 400watts Jack030 on 01/6/2004 22:35:50 that Octane R is a very nice amp (8.0:1? or 800.1). Would it be enough to power the infinity perfect 12's i want? or should i downgrade the subs one notch? the next subs down are 96db and their almost $100 bucks cheaper whereas the Infinitys i'm looking at now are only 89db erikcooper on 01/6/2004 23:00:35 The PG 8.0:1 will not power those subs to the 400w you are wanting. If you would like to keep those subs the 15.0:1 will do more like 500w RMS, if those subs can take that little bit more, which they probably can. As long as the subs can take a 2 Ohm lead then it will work at 500w x 2. At 4 ohms it would be 500w x 1. Jack030 on 01/7/2004 17:24:10 anymore suggestions? i like the idea of going with the Octane-R 15.0:1 but how much power is too much? obviously if i don't crank the amp i should be alright, right? erikcooper on 01/7/2004 17:50:21 Anyone know where to find the danger zone on those infinitys? Jack030 on 01/7/2004 18:18:42 are you positive the 8.0:1 won't work? it puts out 800watts x 1 @ 2 ohms. Wouldn't that be 400 to each sub? i'm only persistent b/c it's a difference of a $100 i don't want to get a 1500watt amp and not use it to it's potential. i didn't see anything on infinity's site about giving the subs too much power erikcooper on 01/7/2004 18:55:33 The 8.0:1 doesn't do 800 watts. It does 800w max, which means about as much as what color the heat sink is to you. The RMs is what you gotta look at. Check this address. This is the manual. Look at the continuous watts. That is what you will get from it. The 8.0:1 is 600w x 1 continuous, the 15.0:1 is 1000w x 1 continuous. Jack030 on 01/7/2004 18:58:41 to have two of these subs in a sealed enclosure with now partition should i just double the recommended volume for one sub to get the desired volume for two or is there somethng else to consider? Jack030 on 01/7/2004 19:01:31 alright thank you very much. you're helping me out a lot erikcooper. do you have a screen name or some way i can get a hold of you quicker at times so i don't have to use up the forum all the time. i hate being a beginner... erikcooper on 01/7/2004 21:13:43 hehe, I would recommend posting it here just in case I can not get around but if you want you could e-mail erikcooper1983@yahoo.com as well.
