i was wondering what a good brand of home theater speakers would be, i got this reciever with my big screen-http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3067067153&category=39795 it give the details, its 100x5 in surround mode, i am looking fora better set of speakers go with the reciever, i need all 5 surrounds as well as a good powered sub, any suggestions. thanx alot guys Replies (20) cplkittle on 12/28/2003 18:18:40 I have a pioneer setup that is more than I can handle, but I also live in a mobile home right now, so as far as shaking the walls, that is not hard to do. I have always told myself that if I ever move or build a house that I would go with the bose surround, I don't think you can beat it, but the price is a little high. My father in law has the infinity entra point five series (I have studied his setup many times) That is very clean and clear. Ok, had to take back some dishes anyway, so I ran back down there for a minute. The satellites are 100w max, the center channel is 125w max, and the 10" sub is 150w max. He paid around $650 for the whole setup including the reciever, and got a pretty good warranty on it. He has a RCA reciever, and He said he don't remember what they were priced seperately. Prob 150 and 500. cplkittle on 12/28/2003 18:31:07 You have to see this one, a bit odd in design.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3067448110&category=1499 JBL surround without sub $210 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3067352496&category=32861 uochronos on 12/28/2003 18:46:01 You definatly cant beat bose i have a piar of there 701 floor standing speakers just the 2 floor standing speakers sound as good as many surround sound systems do and there surround systems sound amazing as well. they are a bit on the spendy side i spent the better part of 1000$ for my 2 speakers i also bought them from a bose showcase store though. you can get the same speakers on ebay for about half what i paid. http://cgi.lycos.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3067784930&category=32861 this one is 745$ for the full set of bose speakers and sub woofer http://cgi.lycos.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3067630895&category=32861 455$ for this one 3 hours left http://cgi.lycos.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3067430237&category=32861 485$ this one is a excelent deal for bose... ttocs on 12/28/2003 21:07:16 OH NO................ The industry saying for bose is, "alot of highs and no lows, gotta be bose"......... I have worked for many a store that sold them, and always pushed the other lines. Bose is very nice looking but sonically you can get, and probably should expect, more. I sold a boatload of cambridge soundworks when you put the two head-to-head. I do like the floor standing speakers such as the 701 as you have. They do fill a room nicely. Are you looking for a sub satalite system like bose? There are alot of great inwall speakers as well, or the good old tower. What price range are you looking in? If you get a good set of speakers, they will last you longer then most of your furniture. I put a good chunk into my system, and go to very few movies now because of it.... I would rather crank it up in my living room and in the morning .ask the neighbors if they though is sounded good Munchiesyumm on 12/29/2003 02:45:51 I don't know what your price range is but if you are serious about this and want to lay out some dough for top line system DCM is the way to go, great SQL and very affordable for what you get! Circuit City will order these and might even have some in the store check it out! I have 2 DCM12's floor speakers, I bought them for $250 each they are 250 watts (rms) 500 watts max these speakers have great SQL I love these speakers I guard them with a sawed off shot gun SMILE If I had the money I would complete the set but too many bills! http://www.dcmspeakers.com/ They have a home surround kit for under 1000! It's on the front page when you go to the site. good luck kiaman on 12/29/2003 05:46:08 what about Adrie Audio? didnt they start up as a HT company? www.acoustic-visions.com they can get a little pricy....but from the reviews ive read about their home stuff.....its well worth it swez on 12/29/2003 08:16:09 I've owned Polk Audio Studio Reference speakers (Monitor 7b's) for a long time (1978) and they still sound great for low-medium power front stage applications. These are bookshelf type, 6.5" woofer, 10" passive radiator and 1" silk tweeters. They can go low... but the power handling drops off once you get them over 50 watts RMS. Not for high SPL bass applications. Use a powered sub for the low bass. Polk has been around for over 30 years and is considered a Premium Speaker system by many audiophiles (audio snobs...GRIN) and I love em! A bit pricey to be sure... but if you demand high accuracy sound and willing to pay the price, POLK will not dissappoint you. Once you have heard them in a demo room... you'll want to take them home. Have a look at the many options you can choose from: http://www.polkaudio.com/home/products.php?category=1&PHPSESSID=5a653193e94486537cb16cb21151c385 Swez PS This is the model I use on my computer at home with a modest receiver. Still, at 25 watts/ch., they'll shake the floors... http://www.polkaudio.com/home/specs.php?category=3&speaker=280&vintage=1 Think I paid ~$300.00/PR. back than. Can see the prices have really jumped since then. Let's see... $300/25 years = $12.00/yr., investment... not bad when we don't abuse our gear huh? compvr15s on 12/29/2003 12:46:24 price isnt that big of a deal right now, since the surround i got i am renting, they are charging me 1300 for the whole setup, plus another 2100 for the big screen, i think im goin to get a loan from tha bank for 3500, pay off the tv, take the surround back and use the rest on a surround, but the g/f and i are also gettin ready to move in the spring into our own house so i should probably save a lil money for that, what i have now is ok but the 10 sub just dont seem to thump like it should, would placement make that big of a difference in home audio? i have it upfrond right now like 3ft below my center channel, should i maybe move it to one side or maybe behind the viewing area?? thanx for all the input. i can get the bose system from the same place, maybe ill go there and listen to it and see if i like it. Munchiesyumm on 12/29/2003 12:55:07 Okay, so you want some SQ system but why not throw in just for fun a sub that will make your neighbors pissed and the seals on the home break! The DCM setups are without a doubt loud speakers. If you want some perfect SQ buy polk like swez said. "Premium Speaker" true but from my exsperience I don't like their subs. Yamaha has suprisingly been putting better and better products out also. You might want to check them out. There's a lot of other options you don't have to get one brand, one setup, one kit. But you will have to get more couches when everyone comes over for football games! If you're like me and you come out your happy fun time car stereo to a over rated trebble disaster!! YOU will be mad. I am not a salesperson for DCM and I don't like to be stuck on one brand but these subs will make your eyes tear up! cplkittle on 12/29/2003 17:36:56 I have seen several recommendations for setups. One has the sub in the front, one has it in the rear. I, myself was dissapointed with my passive, so I bought a powered 10" RCA to go along with my system.. Have both hooked up now, and was impressed yet again last night when I rented Stephen King's Dreamcatcher on the satellite. (lotsa choppers, intense music, and guns-firepower). I prefer the powered up front, and the passive on my surrounds behind the sectional at the back of the room. It's not anywhere near the sub/mids ratio in my car, but it sounds good, well balanced. compvr15s on 01/2/2004 16:00:35 im much happier now, it was just some low end freqs that i was in need off, i went out and bought a dual 12" mtx powered sub system, it shakes my house lol, i didnt know home theaters had bass like that. this is what i got http://mtxaudio.com/homeaudio/products/subwoofers/ the 12inch model. its only 150 watts to the one 12 and the other is pasive so i just runs off the air from the powered sub. it was 229 dollars im gonna look online to see if i can get it cheaper, then ill just take back the one i got, noplace had it hooked up for me to listen to it. im very happy now, even happier if i can find it cheaper online. thanx for all the help guys, i will be thinkin about upgrading surround speakers next compvr15s on 01/2/2004 16:08:54 thats odd. i just looked on e-bay and it shows the 12 inch for 310. i wonder why i got it cheaper than an internet price. well either way im happy erikcooper on 01/2/2004 16:29:07 That sub system looks nice. Got some good ideas for myself from that. compvr15s on 01/2/2004 16:31:41 are you plannin on building one or buying one? if you build one make sure to get the right speakers, only the sub in the front is hooked to an amp, the one on the bottom is just pushed from the one facing froward, i dont know how muhc differnce it would make to wire 2 subs but i know its really loud for 150 watts. erikcooper on 01/2/2004 17:01:20 Yea, I meant to buy because I don't know, how much would the amp and speakers cost alone? Seems like it would be at least that much. swez on 01/3/2004 17:58:13 If you wish to fiddle around with bass sounds... try moving the sub woofer into a corner. Here, you get extra dB free by acoustic coupling from the floors & walls. Can pick up as much as +6 dB of low end this way, depending on the room. Sometimes this trick works very well and sometimes, get midbass peaks that don't sound as pleasing. Anyway, enjoy the new MTX sub woofer setup. Swez compvr15s on 01/5/2004 07:59:07 few more questions, when i have my receiver set to dvd the bass is about double of what it is when i have it set to tv. do you guys know what its like that, does the reciever get a higher voltage signal from the dvd player then it does from the tv? or is this not supposed to happen. my reviever has 5.1 DD surroud so i only have one cable for the sub, on the back of my mtx sub theres a left and right input, do both of them need to be used or can i just use one or the other? if both need to be used what do i run from on the back of my reciever since i dont a left and right audio output for subwoofer. when i have a music cd in the dvd player i have it on like volume 12 and it shakes the whole house, if tv sound mode if i can have it at like volume 30 and its still noticable less than the other mode. hope you understand my question, thanx alot guys. ttocs on 01/5/2004 22:07:10 dvd's are recorded with seperate audio signals. Rather then reading left or right they read all the channels (LF, RF, C, RR, FR, and sub). It is a much cleaner system then the reciever having to change the left and right signals into the 5(6 with sub) speaker outputs. compvr15s on 01/8/2004 15:29:08 is there anyway to boost the signal to level my problem out a little? or is this just something that is a downside of my reciever? i know my neighbors sony reciever throws out the same bass in all modes. didnt know if they made some type of signal booster or someway to add more bass when the reciever is in the tv sound mode. thanx alot compvr15s on 01/10/2004 07:49:11 BUMP Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
