Finally got my HO alt, rated at 180 amps. I was lookin at some that were 250 but 180 works. My stock wire between batt, ground, and alternator is all 6 guage, do I absolutely have to upgrade that?
I will eventually anyway but would I be able to put the alternator on now and not worry about the wires burning up when I run my amplifier?

if you put the money into the alt, put the money into the wires. Do it right, do it once.... You will already have most of the bolts out, it would only be mayber 3 more.

If you use 1/0 wire, @5 foot you will get a .2 drop in voltage
if you use 2gauge, @ 5 foot you will ger a .3 drop in voltage
right now you have a 1v drop at 5 feet.
I would recommend one of these two.
it might cost you $20 to run 1/0 monster cable that length at the most.
