I have a 1998 saturn sl2 that has not been messed with in any way. I've just driven it and now my rear speaker on the passenger side doesn't play anything. I checked behind the factory head unit and its looks like all the wires are connected and I checked the wires that go into the speaker itself and they're connected. I was wondering what happened to my speaker and what I should do to fix it, if I even can fix it. Replies (9) curtis73 on 12/22/2003 01:24:52 Three guesses: 1) the factory speaker gave up the ghost and just decided to die, 2) somewhere between the stereo and the speaker a wire rubbed through and shorted itself, or 3) the most probable thing I can think of is that one of the wires fell off the back of the speaker. Pull the speaker out and see if the wires are still connected to the back. ttocs on 12/22/2003 10:06:27 if you have an ohm meter you can test it to see if it is blown. If all the connections are good that is where I would go. compvr15s on 12/22/2003 10:41:37 you can always just take that speaker out and hook it up to your rear driver side, if it plays fine its your wiring if it dont play then its the speaker, if its bad, go ahead and replace both speakers not just one, get some aftermarket speakers they will sound better, just dont distort them, or they will go bad too. Swez on 12/22/2003 22:15:52 Agreed... 1. Test the present speaker to see if it is good or not. If dead, replace w/ aftermarket upgrades and really enjoy the new sound 2. Make sure you have an audio signal (from HU) at the wire that connects to that speaker. If not, more digging to do To test the present speaker, remove it (or at least) the wiring connector and run a pair of jumpers from the other rear speaker to the suspect one. If it works good, your wiring is bad. If it does not work, your speaker died. Replace the rear set. If the speaker is good in that test, your wires or HU amp have a problem. More work needed to verify that issue. Advise your findings and we'll walk you through other steps if needed. Swez Emoney on 12/27/2003 11:39:26 I checked out my speakers by switching the wires that ran to them and found my speaker that didn't work was dead. So now I was wondering if any one knew of some good speaker, preferably one's with some bass that are 6 1/2" or 6 3/4". Thanks for the help. compvr15s on 12/27/2003 12:16:02 what is your price range, dont want to throw out the big boys if ya dont want to spend a bunch of money. many makes sell a few different models, an ok one, a good one, and then a great one. cdt has a sale right now on their 6.5 components. 150 dollars, thats a great deal, they are a top notch company, the speakers just didnt have the right color paint on them so they slashed the price in half. may also want to consider a set for the front of your car and not worry about rear speakers. just as long as you have front stage your system will sound fine, rear speakers just add fill. check www.thezeb.com they have many brands to search through, any questions just ask. Emoney on 12/28/2003 23:06:50 I would like to spend somewhere around $100... give or take some... but if it calls for it I would be willing to go a little over $150 uochronos on 12/29/2003 00:07:15 if your front speakers would fit in the rear i would suggest a pair of those cdt's for the front and then just puting your old front speakers in the back for filler. ttocs on 12/29/2003 10:58:12 I don't know that I would do that. You imaging would be pulled to the back... Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
