not happy

just installed 2 audiobahn 3 1/2 comps in the front, and 2 bahn 6x8's in the back of the Kia.
Uninstalled them and put the blaupunkts back in the rear, and the polks back in the front.
the 3 1/2's boast a frequency range of 40Hz-20KHz, more like 19KHz-20KHz, and the 6x8's sound like a cheap sub bouncing a penny (remember those days)?

can anyone recommend some high quality mids (other than CDT-I'll get those later) I need 1 pair of 5 1/2's and 1 pair of 6 1/2's.
I've been looking at either alpine, jbl, polk momo, and infinity. Anyone have any experience with these?

well, 3 1/2s arent too nice either way, not gonna get much out of them as they are extremely small. i have space in my 92 cavy for 3.5s and i put 4" cdt comps in there, but yea, u said u dont want cdt yet so....here we go:

alpine: never been a huge fan of their speakers, but their newer stuff has actually impressed me in comparison. i wouldnt mind having some of the newer alpine speakers. JBL's speakers are alright, but i'd still take alpine over them. Polk i've had good experience with. my current 6x9s are Polk and i'm pretty happy with them. Now infinity has been by far my best experience in dealing with speakers in general. very nice quality all around at every level of infinitys you can get. my dad has infinitys in his grand prix. great stuff, and awesome sound. i almost opted for the infinitys in my 97 cavalier but i ended up going with memphis, which i would also recommend since you can get them at a great price. Memphis=MB Quart without the 'Shrill' highs that most MB owners suffer from, and you can usually get memphis at a cheaper price.

hope i helped

I talked to a guy at work who also recommended memphis, I guess I will have to take the suggestion I always give and go to a stereo shop and just listen to a few brands, the only hard part is that I have to go to three different stores to compare all of the different brands I am looking at. no one carries memphis and infinity around here at the same location.
I have narrowed it down though, thanks for the help.

I agree about the alpine. I have been installing their decks for years with joy, but it was not untill the last few years that I started to enjoy their speakers. They have made some good changes, check them out as they are priced very fairly, and they back them up well... Personally never been a huge fan of infinity, I always found them too bright. You need to go and listen to a few different types. Everyones opinions are different.
