| mb quart vs. infinity?by wolfsmane Front Page * FAQ Forum * Archive Index Prev :: Nexti have an 82 chev p/u i plan on put'n in kenwood or pioneer hu. i was convinced i was going with infinity kappa,,,3.5's in dash and 6.5's in doors. i was told i should consider mb quarts instead. i'd like everyone's opinion on these. is there something better that i haven't considered? Replies (9) xplicitblitzboi on 04/20/2003 12:11:54 Some other good choices are CDT, Polk, Boston Acoustics, MB Quartz, Focal, Rainbow and Dynaudio(the last 3 are probably my favorite but will cost you) all of theses choices will be just as good, if not better thatn the kappas :) megahurts4 on 04/20/2003 19:45:21 CDT's may be your best option from what I've heard. I personally think MB Quarts's tweeters are harsh. I do have to say, my Kappa's tweeters sound very nice and very detailed. I love them. I'm not too fond of having an oval woofer on it, but that was my mistake. Oh yea, if you do get the Infinitys, you would want to send them plenty of power. That's where they would sound their best. wolfsmane on 04/21/2003 10:07:58 i appreciate the replies! i plan on running them off the new hu for now. but i plan to amp them later( by summer i hope!). i'll check into the others suggested. i don't know what cdt's are??? xplicitblitzboi on 04/21/2003 14:11:19 go to www.cdtaudio.com and check out their cambria line of components, they are very nice, i have the 4 inchers in my 92 cavalier and they are great, some of the best speakers i've heard. but yes, most any good speaker will need a good amp to power it. I have been looking into some older orion amps to power my mids in my other car. Swez on 04/29/2003 09:28:28 All the speaker brands mentioned are very good options. Since you have a PU, consider deleting the dash speakers in lieu of quality Comp speakers in the front door panels. Much better sound stage presents this way and save yourself some time and $$, by not using the cheapo dash speakers. Can use the money you might have spent there, for quality Comps and a decent amp. Once you have that situation well in hand, then consider a moderate sub system for the rear cabin are of this PU. May have to get very creative on fitting in a sub in the rear... but there is always a way, if you are cleaver and get good advice. No need for a huge sub system here... unless that's what you desire and are willing to make some major mods to the truck. Otherwise, a self-power sub like Bazooka, Infinity Bass Link or make your own configuration...will do a fine job for low power bass applications. Comments on your end goal would help... Swez PS If you really desire large subs etc.. are you sure that old pick will not rattle to pieces? hehe ttocs on 04/29/2003 14:10:17 I have never been a huge fan of quart really. They sound great at low volumes, but when you crank them they have something left to be desired. Infinity is good for loud volumes, as long as you don't mind your ears bleeding from the tweeter. They are a little too sensitive for my tastes. Another brand that I don't think has been mentioned is alpine. I didn't use to like them but they have come a long way in the last 3 yrs. have you listened to any of these yet? Your best bet is to go and listen to them being pushed by a similar deck. Bring your own cd that you are finiliar with and don't be afraid to jamn them. Put them through the paces that you would in your truck. We can sit here an recommend brands all day, but what we like, you may not.... xplicitblitzboi on 04/29/2003 14:49:42 exactly, it is all up to you, and your tastes, this is something that a lot of people dont understand. People will be satisfied by different types of music on different speakers. For example, I am a big fan of CDT, and others may not be, it is just my taste, there are other brands that are just as good, but it is just my opinion on good speakers. I can sit here and reccomend brands to you and you still wont know if you like them or not until you actually hear them. There is also the danger of some of the other message boards that are not very well educated. (one in particular that i found was a camaro board that was obsessed with volfenhag and had a bunch of custom installs with this crappy equipment. and that was all they reccomended for the lower end equipment) their arguement was that you cant get JL for 130 bucks. I said, hmmm, well, i got 3 JL w0s in a box for 175, so i dont know what theyre lookin at, but not all JL is expensive, and it is all the same great build quality, from low end to high end. A bunch of people sit here and say that JL is all i reccomend(on different forums.) not true, I always recommend at least two other brands along with JL. most likely CV or Kicker. but anyways, enough of my rambling. remember two things you get what you pay for and listen before you buy. redderthanafeutz on 04/29/2003 17:07:38 I don't know what your price range is, but the Adire Audio Koda component set is supposed to be wonderful for I think $369. I've heard nothing but praise about them on other forums and they are designed to work very well off axis, which would be great for doors. I've not heard them myself, but they might be worth a look for you. But like everyone has said, in the end it's up to your taste and what your ears like. xplicitblitzboi on 05/7/2003 20:56:01 so....what happened with this? |
