anyone know any info about my stock compoents?
I was thinking of getting an amp for em because my subs
are overpowering... ohms? power ratting?
also i've never heard of components not being x-ed over
but is it possible they would not put a crossover on a
stock speaker set?
thanks for any info,

Ethan-

Stock speakers for VWs are still made by Blaupunkt I believe. 4 ohms, power rating of probably 25-30 watts RMS. A small amp would definitely help the stock setup. More power will supply you with cleaner sound as you are not pushing the HU past its weak limitations. An amp would also allow you better control over speaker output level matching. I'm a little confused about the Xover question. What occurs (besides small speakers trying to reproduce low frequencies) to make you ask that? If you are seriously thinking of adding an amp why not drop an extra $50 on some cheap replacement speakers. Anything is generally better than stock. HTH

I got some freebie blaus from a friend that upgraded (rated at 40/80)
I had them running off my HU (22-25w) and later put an extra 75 to them. The volume doubled and surprisingly with no detectible distortion. Depending on if you plan to upgrade later, there are some nice amps out there that have built in high&low pass filters.
An amp would help alot, as far as whether or not they have xovers, I don't know.

some brands of speakers have the crossover right on the woofer, then the tweet just connects to the woofer. if you look at the back of your speakers, you will see little round cylinder resistors, if they are there then the speakers are crossed over, if not then maybe the x-over is elsewhere or there just may not be one. if you go with an external amp id recommend some aftermarket comps to go with it, somthing like infinity, cdt, jl. alpine, can be had for good prices on the net. good luck
