Does anyone know what you have to do to become an authorized Car Audio dealer ? I often see links on manufacturer pages where you can apply for Dealer Status. Does it require a registered business with or without bonding? And is there supposed to be a certain stock quota that should be met ? Replies (9) s2003_redman on 03/9/2003 15:07:32 well first you should become a certified mobile electrionics installer, i don't know about a stock quota, but if you want to own a business you should be registered ttocs on 03/9/2003 15:38:48 most companies do require a minimum order. They can range from $500-3000... Some high end companies require photo's of the company location, and some kind of proof that it is there. Almost all of them do not support internet sales, and will not allow you to do so, often revocing the authorization if they find out.... me100e on 03/12/2003 19:42:25 K, I got a couple of replies from Crossfire Audio, Stillwater-Kicker, and Audiobahn. So here is the skinny, you require a registered business, an active and open store front for retail purchases, and installation bays. Audiobahn requires you to carry Audiobahn stock, Kicker requires your location to be X-distance away from the next closest Kicker dealer, a business plan to discuss with the Kicker Rep, and a good credit rating developed from running your business.. admin on 12/29/2003 19:15:12 USFLAG COFFEE cplkittle on 12/29/2003 19:16:57 a bit more on Audiobahn. I called earlier this year, and they will sell to you if you have a business liscense and a storefront as they shun online sales and do not honor warranties through online sales. If you want to become an authorized dealer it costs $2,000, but depending on the population, you can be the only one or one of few dealers for that zip code. Their minimum order is $200 whether authorized or not. Audiobahn distributers also sell kenwood, kicker, panasonic, rockford fosgate, mb quart, mtx, and of course audiobahn to name a few. Their one rival company that I know about is MA audio, although I have seen MA audio products in authorized AB stores. Munchiesyumm on 12/30/2003 15:20:23 hey SMILE Make a good man promise before you start it! I pledge to the subwoofers of America! I will not try to sell people what they don't need. I will not rip people off. I will not talk about my reputation. I will only do my best to be a good man and not be taken over by the dark side. I will not talk to people in "Stereo" terms if they don't know them. I will sell with good prices and only make people happy because if other's are happy so am I. amen! SCS_LLC on 11/1/2005 18:41:07 Mine is not so much of a reply more of a question. I have recently open a contracting business installing systems around jacksonville,fl. But i have experience in other fields as well. One of the things i was wanting to do to bring in aditional income was to start installing car stereos and subwoofer bass systems. I would like to hire at least 1 man that knows he way around 75% of all known made vehicles in the us currently including new vehicles. But here is some advice to those who have not thought about it. Always ask no matter how dumb the question. swez on 11/1/2005 19:30:27 Absolutely! In this life, there is no such thing as a dumb question. If it's important and needs to be asked... do so. I like Munchies Credo... I would add... "Treat others as we wish to be treated." That goes for customers, workers, suppliers and the clean up crew. If you can find a guy with MEPC (and other certs) and maybe 3-5 years install experience on car audio, alarms and remote starters, he's worth his weight in Gold. Pay him well, as he will bring in more business than any sales guy can. An installer can be your best business representative or your worst nightmare. Swez MrBrownstone on 11/3/2005 21:07:25 there's a loaded question. You can start any business you want Retail, or eTail in America. However, successful business, that requires a lot of planning. I've seen a muffler/tire/rims/paint shop sell car audio. Most manufacturers are looking for a brick & mortar place to do business. you can always buy the products from a stocking rep, indirectly from a distributor, or grey market the stuff as needed. About 1/3 of all car audio shops sell products they are NOT authorized to sell...meaning they don't have a direct relationship with the manufacturer, so they have to send defective/warranty work back to their original source...or have it fixed by an independent repair shop.
