hey walt, we had been kicking around the idea of having an area for reporting on product trials. This would allow people to get a sence of what is good and bad. We had said that it would have to be spam free, and give acurate model numbers, and data numbers. Watcha think?
Reply Posted: 03/8/2003 21:51:11 by: admin The Wizard
Sounds like a cool idea! I'll look into dedicating some code for a new section of the site :)
Reply Posted: 03/9/2003 22:07:18 by: SeVeNX7X i dont know about the fee based full blown CK section.. i personally think that all how-to's should be free, because not all of us either have credit cards.. or can afford something like that. i think it would hurt rather than help. i understand that it would help with the money issues of keeping this site alive.. but i think that people should donate, rather than HAVE to pay.. just my opinion.
Reply Posted: 03/9/2003 22:18:44 by: Buickman94
where does it say anything about a fee? did i miss somehting?
Reply Posted: 03/9/2003 22:25:25 by: SeVeNX7X "2) Writing How-to Self Help Guides. If one is written well enough, I am sure we can move it to a Fee Based Full Blown Section of ClubKnowledge." In the original post... Maybe i just need more information to make a feasable argument? im certainly not downing anything Walt says, as he has put this site back up for all of us to use.

I am sure it is a typo... Walt has never asked for penny, not to say that he has no reason to. In previous years I am sure that if we counted up the $ that we have saved people by pointing them in the right direction on equipment, and how to put it in themselfes, it would be a very large piggy bank.. He would be a happy man if he got a small percentage of what he has helped save with this site.
Reply Posted: 03/11/2003 19:46:35 by: SeVeNX7X i completely agree with that. there should be a donation area.. that can be used with paypal. that way the people that can afford to give up 20$ for a great cause.. (and we all know it IS a great cause, as im sure this site has helped every single one of us in one way or another).. can help.
Reply Posted: 04/5/2003 23:12:55 by: xplicitblitzboi
yeah, in my other forum, there is a paypal donate, i would be happy to donate money for the cause to prevent something like before happening, i've really missed this forum.
Reply Posted: 04/6/2003 11:46:48 by: Swez
Yep, I agree that a site donation program via paypall, CC/debit card or personal check would be the most beneficial.
Once the site is paying for itself and all operating costs are covered, then at Walt's discression, he can offer some rewards or gifts to those who make this site work.
Nothing big or fancy.. Tee Shirts, Caps, Sweater, Jacket or other promo's with CK logo and web site information.
Yes, it would be nice to get a (modest) stipen for the many hours some spend here helping out... (The Admins & Golds) but basically, we are here to help as a hobby. That's why we come anyway right??? Assisting others as they grow and learn.
Walt is making the greatest sacrifice in time and $$ to run this site. I appreciate this more than I can say. Glad the site is back in action and think if we (users and Techs) can support it in any way that is helpful... just do it!
The goals here as I see it...
1. Keep a good site running
2. Open to all that come for helps
3. Keep it funded adequately and pay for upgrades as needed
Just my 2 cents,

Reply Posted: 03/3/2004 05:23:18 by: ram1 Hi guys, I added a few links tonight that has helped me out and I think you'll find them very useful. I'm a pretty new member, but I'd sure like to be able to buy a hat or t-shirt, something like that with the logo or something on it. I used to float all over the net, but now I'm here for hours at night. I found a lot of different sites and each night I'm going to add some of those links for your consideration. Thanks ....

www.stereo-fx.com is up and coming pretty soon, and from the shop here in houston, they have deals that would blow your mind, not your money. Everything i have looked at and priced checked there, compared to other places has been underpriced, and is all new, and not refurbished, i just wanted to tell everyone to check it periodically for whenever it is done, because i think, if they keep it like the store is......they will take the car audio internet by storm, one example of this is the kicker 850.2, a 700 dollar amp for sale their, brand new, in the package for a little over 250, alpine 9833 HU, normally 450, their it is 300, anyway, just keep an eye out for it to open.

Most guys do post their installs on cardomain.com. At the moment, we might have difficulty doing this on CK as it would probably eat up a lot of server space and added cost of operating the site.
Let's see what Walter Hargrave (Chief Admins) has to say?

PS Welcome to CK!Reply Posted: 10/26/2004 07:51:05 by: Victor Sound and Acoustic Designs - India - http://www.sadesigns.in
Hey guys..
We were alking about putting up a well administered review section for all kind of car audio products.. that wud be really helpful..
I have planned a system where all of us can rate and review all the products without any discrimination and also avoid the use of it by brand promoters..
let me know if you wud like to have a look at it.. its a long explanation so i think posting it wud we really dumb.. i can mail it to any of the golds and all can have a look at it..and suggest some changes..
we shud do this really fast..so that the growing community of CK can take an advantage of our knowledge and experience in a systematic way.
comments,,,??

I would love to see a review section which consist of honest hands on experience rather than opinionated views of a product. I have been into car audio since I was 16 and first received my license, so I have used wide range of car audio equipment. It would be nice to see honest reviews, many of the reviews I read on other forums end up becoming filled w/ spam or the opinion is not hands on experience, it is based on what has been read and/or told to them by friends and others.

Good idea. If this forum supported different sections, we could have a FAQ, Reviews, and others in a different tree format. I've been in the car products since 1988, so I have a bunch of reviews I've been dispensing on an ad hoc basis.
We'd need to have someone on top of it for content.Reply Posted: 06/13/2005 23:06:44 by: ![]()

SwezReply Posted: 11/17/2005 19:29:40 by: wilsonc0 Walter,
I am new here and I am trying to get the word out that the car audio world is not big enough. I would like to start my own buisiness in Custom Car Audio. I just can't get the word out enough and not too many people in the area that I am from are into this kind of thing. I can't find anything about schooling and so far my search is not very good. There is nothing remotely close to my area and there is nothing that I can do about it? So, What should I do? Could you please help me? To the people around in my area would say about me is that, "Car Audio is your cup of tea!" Meaning that I can just about take on anything that I come across in the car audio world. If I don't know it. I can learn it in the matter of some short time and be good at what I do. If anyone or if even you can help me. Please, let me know something. Thank you very much for you time and effort to read this.
Sincerely,
Chris Wilson

After 10+ yrs in the install biz I will be the first to say that learning quickly is good in this area, but you will never stop learning. Every year there are new cars and new equipment to learn, and just about the time you are comfortable with it the new models come out...
Other then mr b I don't think there is anyone that owned any kind of car audio biz. We have alot of good info but not necessarily any good info on how to start a biz. At carsound.com there is an industry forum that has alot of people that have done this. I send you there with a warning that they often are not as friendly or helpfull as we are. The longer you stay in this biz you will find out that there are alot of big ego's that get deflated quickly and get there feeling hurt...........Reply Posted: 06/4/2006 13:20:46 by: ![]()

As you can see, we have a wide variety of talents on this site, at your disposal. The best part... it's free and we don't abuse readers in the process of learning. (even if they deserved it.. hehe)
Welcome to CK and feel free to contribute knowledge and comments as you see fit.

MrBrownstone Me Wise Magic
You know..People take pot shots at me, and it's really unfounded.
Just because I have a smart-alec attitude. Just because I'm as opinionated as Archie Bunker, but as refined as Larry The Cable Guy doesn't mean that folically challenged car audio mechers have the right to slander my bad name. That's Swez's job.
If you don't have a sense of humor, you'll never go drinking with a bunch of sailors on a 3 day pass.
One of the downsides to being in this realm since 1988 is that I am a cynic for manufacturer claims and marketing crapola. Telling 16-19yr old gullible kids that a 1Farad capacitor will solve every world problem including hunger and AIDS bothers me. That, and our $900 speaker is better than their $700 speaker...I like to cut to the crap.
As long as everybody agrees with me, we'll be fine. If anyone disagrees that this field is 90% installation, 10% equipment, then we can all just plop everything into our factory locations and have any guy with a screwdriver from Butlick Montana glue everything on; we're fine.
PS Please enjoy the music while your party is being reached
PPS I tend to RANT once in a while..for entertainment purposes only.
PPPS I only pick on Swez because the elderly are such an easy target and he's so old, he can't remember many good comebacks that don't involve the revolutionary war...or, his bible that he had all 12 apostles autograph.
But other than that....

Reply Posted: 10/21/2006 18:54:51 by: Hydrogin Walt, thanks for a great site. I did not have to read much to decide that it would be worthwhile to join and help others where I can. I also read some of the archives and found some of the posts pretty interesting.
Swez ....... You're the master
Ttocs ......... Not far away
Me ......... Maybe someday
Anyway if you get someone who needs help on fabricating custom panels and stuff like that just give me a shout.
Thanks again Walt for a great site I suspect I'll learn more than I'll contribute since there's allready so much experience and knowledge involved.

Welcome to CK there Hydrogin!
Yes, we have a tight group here at CK. There are several Pro Installers in out dugout. They know the nitty gritty details of how to install most common gear and even offer custom install info as needed. They have a good deal of experience and will guide you as needed. (Ttocs, UK Installer and Victor are long term residents... errrr detainees)
We also have some very talented enclosure designers. They can give basics and also very detailed info based on experience and extrapolated response curves, using design tools like WinISD.
As for me, am more of a generalist and a systems type guy. How to integrate things well and what products tend to work very well based on hands on experience or helping others put a package together that really works!
None of us knows it all and we work as a team to give our readers the best possible options and methodologies for a given install. Walt Hargrave is our site Admins and keeps the show running from the back room. He's a talented webmaster and has enough background in car audio to let the talents here flow unimpeded. Thanks Walter! Without your skills and support, CK would be a flop.
Anyway, there is always room for new Golds on the team. We look for talented people who know how to communicate well with peeps at all levels. We always recruit talent from within the site. Those who consistantly support others, have excellent insights and willing to help others succeed, make very good Golds. This does not happen over night. But we do look for consistancy, accurate information and advide givers who mesh well with fellow team members. In most cases, we know a quality Gold candidate in 6 months or so.
To be nominated as a Gold, another Gold will pose, (sponsor) the up candidate to fellow Golds and Admins. If we all agree this person is ready, that confirmation happens in short order and special tools are then placed at their disposal. It's pretty informal, but one we choose a Gold, they usually pan out very well and stick around for sometime.
Finally, there's a lot of FAQ's and DIY articles one cand read and glean from here at CK. It took a while to develop these tools and we use them often to give others a quick look at what's ahead and involved. Some are old and perhaps need revisions. but on the whole, it's good reading for those who wish to dig deeper.
Again, welcome to CK and we wish you well as you learn and enjoy out little niche on the web.
