If it is a factory refurb with warrenty and dealing with crutchfield is a plus you can get some killer deals. I would shy away any that are not factory done though. I have used and installed a lot from Kicker my only problem with them is they aren't 1ohm stable.

Factory refurbs can be a great deal. Bought a 300 + watt JBL amp 10 years ago and it's still perking right along. (Do the math... $10.00/yr is a good Return on Investment)

Like the man says, there's nothing wrong with refurbs. As long as a warranty exists & the work was done at the factory, you should be covered. I have a refurbished Pioneer HU, MTX 6x9s, & Kicker 700.5. No problems to date, except the fact that I always want bigger & better. But that's another bag altogether.

Dirty Little Secret:

Mr Brownstone purchases almost entirely refurbished equipment for himself. I try to stay away from reconditioned speakers, but as far as amplifiers, it's so easy to tell if there's a defect by electronic tests.

Refurbs are a stupendous value for the customer. Basically, you're getting them at near dealer cost and at times for less. In any case, try to stay away from speakers if possible, but electronics are a sure winner.

PS Some speakers are probably just fine but it's not always obvious if something is borderline damaged. With amps, it's either on or off.

Like Mr. B/others said, refurbs are a great bargain when they are rebuilt to factory specs and offer a warranty. (1 year or more) In most cases, the amp was abused and not used as designed.

The good part about refurbs, it's gone over carefully by a qualified tech, parts replaced and then tested to specs. If the amp passes, it will be resold as a refurb which is often 40-50% off retail. (They cannot sell it as new and the buyer really wins)

Am not sure I'd buy refurb speakers, but an expensive sub that has been repaired to factory specs and at a tidy discount... yes! These subs are tested hard and if they pass, buyers get a great deal too.
